3 muggers held in Sylhet

Police arrested three suspected muggers from Shibganj area of the city on Friday. The arrested were identified as Ruhul Ahmed, 22, Mamunul Haque, 25, and Badshah Mia, 20. Mohammad Shakhawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shahparan Police Station, said suspecting the movement of three youths, a patrol team of police searched their bodies and recovered a machete from their possession. Two separate cases were filed with Shahparan Police Station in this connection.
Press briefing on Public Service Week, National Window held in C’nawabganj

A press briefing regarding the observance of Public Service Week and inauguration of National Window was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj with the association of Access to Information (A2I) project of the prime minister’s office on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj Sardar Sarafat Ali gave the press briefing. Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr Quamruzzaman Selim and district information officer Tajkia Akbari spoke on the occasion. It was disclosed that Public Service Day would be observed internationally on June 23 with the slogan ‘Innovative government needed for sustainable development and public welfare’ and the Prime Minister would inaugurate National Window with 24,000 websites on the day. With a view to making the Public Service Day-2014 meaningful, Public Service Week-2014 would be observed in Chapainawabganj from June 22 to 28, it was disclosed again.
One electrocuted, two injured in Kurigram

One electrocuted with illegal electricity line of Pally Biddut and injuring two in Bhurungamari upazila in Kurigram district early hours on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Shahinur Rahman 40 son of late Ibrahim Ali of village uttar Pathardubi of the upazila.Local sources said Shahinur went to cut a banana tree which fell in the rain in the morning and touched with a falling live electric wire of illegal connection. He died one the spot. Two persons who went to recover him were also injured. They are Sirajul Islam 36 and Roksana 40 who are now under treatment in Bhurungamari upazila Health Complex.Officer-in-charge of Bhurungamari police station Hasan Imam admitted the incident.
Children theatre festival starts in Barisal

A three-day children theatre festival starts in Barisal on Friday night. Shabdaboli Group Theatre (SGT) organized the festival at Ashwini Kumar Hall on occasion to observe fulfilling the 10-year of its front organization Barisal Shishu Theatre (BST). Syed Dulal, President, SGT, BST and Member Secretary of the festival, presided over the inaugural ceremony, inaugurated by Sahan Ara Begum, secretary of the festival and cultural organizer. The inaugural session was addressed among others by Abdus Sobhan Shikdar, principal secretary at the office of the Prime Minister, Shohidul Alam, Deputy Commissioner Barisal, Faruk Hossain, Secretary SGT. On the first day of the festival ‘Kaljatra’ by Barisal Shishu Theatre, ‘Upanok Samachar’ by Bhor Holo Shishu Theatre of Bhola were staged and dances were performed by ‘Nrityangan’ of Barisal. Animesh Saha Litu, coordinator of the festival, said besides regular discussion, programmes of cultural functions, poetry recitation, dances and dramas would be staged on other two days.
Shrimps worth Tk.1.5 lakh destroyed in Sharankhola

Shrimps and lobsters worth Tk.1.5 lakh were destroyed when some miscreants poured down poison in a fish farm belonging to one Zahidul Islam Hawladar of village Uttar Rajapur (Jibanduari) under Sharankhola Upazila in the district on Sunday mid night due to previous enmity. In this connection the owner of the fish farm lodged a case with Sharankhola PS on Monday (Case No. 10, dated 16-6-2014) accusing Sohrab Boyati (50), son of one late Minhaz Boyati and Sagir Hawladar (40), son of one Shahaj Uddin Hawladar of the same village.
