World War II ‘remains’ found in India

A US team visiting India’s north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh has recovered what it says are possible remains of US soldiers who died in a plane crash during World War Two.
Residents of Lower Dibang Valley handed over the remains to the team recently.

Russia bath lotion poisoning dead toll rises to 58

The number of people in Russia who have died as a result of drinking bath oil has risen from 49 to at least 58, local media has reported.
Most of the 37 other people who became ill are still being treated, with some in a serious condition.

Indian adviser meets key Trump aide

Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval has met US president-elect Donald Trump’s NSA-designate Retired General Michael Flynn, Indian officials told journalists. On Tuesday, Mr Doval also met US Secretary of State John Kerry in Washington.
In the Doval-Flynn meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of regional and global strategic issues and explore ways to further Indo-US ties, media reports said. Mr Doval arrived in the US on Monday. Mr Flynn telephoned Mr Doval a few days ago and invited him to come to the US for a meeting.

3 dead in Venezuela cash unrest

A weekend of looting and clashes left at least three people dead in Venezuela, authorities said, as anger roiled over a chaotic currency reform that left many without cash.
A man, a woman and an adolescent boy were shot dead when violence erupted on Saturday in the town of La Paragua, in the southern state of Bolivar, the attorney general’s office confirmed on Monday.

EU agrees new gun rules after militant attacks

The European Union agreed stricter gun rules on Tuesday but balked at a proposal for a complete ban on the most lethal semi-automatic weapons such as the Kalashnikov.
The measure is part of an overall tightening of EU rules that govern the purchase and sale of such weapons since two Islamist gunmen shot dead 12 people in the offices of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in January 2015. Militants killed 130 people in attacks in Paris in November last year.

Indonesia police kill 3 suspected militants

Indonesian police said three suspected militants who were planning a holiday season suicide bombing were killed in a raid Wednesday on the outskirts of Jakarta in the second imminent attack to be foiled in less than two weeks.
A residential neighborhood was evacuated after five bombs were found in a house used by the men. Police said they had defused three bombs so far and described them as low explosive and made from potassium nitrate.
