Death of business man by police-torture protested

Local people of west Dumuria under Khanjapur union of Gournadi in Barisal on Monday afternoon held protest rally and procession with dead body of a business man protesting alleged killing by police-torture. After the protest programme the dead body was buried at family graveyard following Namaje Janaza participated by huge number of family members’ relatives and local people. Family sources said the dead has injury signs of torture by police. The family member and local people also held protest procession on Sunday noon on same issue and vowed to lodge case in court demanding capital punishment of the torturer and killer police officials engaged in arrest-trade. The victim was identified as Shahin Molla, 22, son of Dubai expatriate Mostafa Molla of west Dumuria in the upazila and owner of a photo-studio at Salta Bazar. Monir Molla, elder brother of the victim, said Shahin was engaged in his business since last two-year.
7th founding anniv of CLAB observed in Sylhet

The 7th founding anniversary of Center for Legal Aid of Bangladesh (CLAB)was observed here with different programmes in Sylhet recently. Shibir man arrested
Sylhet Metropoliton Police (SMP) in a drive detained a Shibir men from Naysorak under the Sylhet city. Sources said, he is an Acting president of M.C College Shibir Monjur Alam. The arrestee was accused in different cases for arson, vandalism and attacking law enforcers in the Sylhet city.
Schoolboy killed in road accident in Kurigram

A student of class of class ten of Ghogadaha High School under Kurigram Sadar upazila was killed in a road accident at 6 pm on Monday. The deceased was identified as Pobittra Kumer Sarkar son of Kusal Chandra Sarkar of village Kumerpara under Sadar upazila. Local sources said when Pabittra Kumer was returning home with bicycle after appearing in half yearly examination in the school at 5pm,a speedy brick loaded three wheeler (Trolley) knocked him from behind. He fell under the wheels of the three wheeler and he died on the spot. The driver of the three wheeler fled away after the incident. The local agitated people damaged the trolley and blocked the road suspending traffic for two hours. Officer-in-charge of Kurigram sadar thana Andul Baten Miah said police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
UP member held on murder , robbery charges in Laxmipur

Detectives arrested a union parishad (UP) member Omar Faruk accused in a number of cases, including murder and robbery, from Daggatali Bazar in Laxmipur upazila on Thursday night. The arrestee was identified as Omar Faruk, member of Uttar Hamchhadi union in the upazila and son of Shamsul Huda of Shamgonj Village. Faruk is an Awami League activist. M Nasim Hossain, assistant superintendent of police in Laxmipur, said a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Faruk conducting a raid on the bazaar on secret information. Earlier, a warrant was issued for the arrest of the UP member in two cases – one for murder and another for robbery – filed with Sadar Police Station, said Nasim, adding that Faruk is accused in many other cases filed with different police stations.
