Kidnapped school girl rescued from Gazipur

A school girl named Nur-un-Nahar who was kidnapped from Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat district was recovered from Joydebpur in Gazipur district on Saturday by the police after 27 days . Morrelganj police recovered the kidnapped girl with the assistance of Joydebpur police and took her to Morrelganj PS on Sunday night. Police also arrested Mamun Shaikh (22), the main accused of the kidnapping case. The girl was scheduled to appear in the ensuing SSC Examination. But due to kidnapping she will not be able to do so. Father of the girl and police said, on November 6 morning Nur-un-Nahar, a student of Teligati M T High School under Morrelganj Upazial was going to the school to appear in her SSC test examination. But on her way Mamun Shaikh, son of one Popul Shaikh of village Nurullapur under the same Upazila and his three associates stopped her, caught her, tied her face with cloth, made her to board on a motor cycle and fled away. In this connection the father of the girl registered a case with the local PS after long 20 days. Rashedul Alam, OC of the PS disclosed, acting on secret information SI Tarikul Islam, Investigation Officer of the case along with a police squad raided a rented house belonging to one Oliar Shaikh of Joydebpur on Saturday, recovered the girl and arrested accused Mamun Shaikh from there. Primal Kanti Tarafdar, Headmaster of M T High School told, the girl will not be able appear in the ensuing SSC Examination as she did not appear in the test examination.
SDGs workshop held in Kishoreganj

Upazila Governance Project (UZGP), a Project of Local Government Ministry supported by UNDP organised a daylong workshop on Sustainable Development Goals & Planning at Sadar Upazila Auditoriem on Monday. Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas attended as Chief Guest and Sadar Upazila Chairman Advocate Shariful Islam presided over the workshop. ADC (General) Tarafder Md. Akhter Jamil, Sadar UNO Abdullah Al Mashud and UNDP District Facilator Monir Hossain Mojumder attended as special guest. It was addressed among others by Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Syed Monjurul Hoque, Sadar Upazila Vice Chairman Masud Al Mamun Khan, Chowdashata UP Chairman A.B Siddique Khoka, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal and CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito. DC Md. Azimuddin Biswas said that the field level administration could play the most vital role to implement the LGSP for achieving the set SDGs through proper monitoring and enhancing capacity of the local government bodies. Strengthening of the local government bodies would ensure transparency in their activities and accelerate advancement in rural areas to attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
IU ‘B’ Unit admission test result published

The result of admission test under Humanities and Social Science faculty (‘B’ unit) of Islamic University (IU), Kushtia for 2016-2017 session has been published. Unit Coordinator Prof Dr. Md. Ruhul Amin handed the result over to the university’s Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari on Monday at 2.30 P.M. A total 10576 admission seekers was attended, who applied for the available 420 seats, said the VC. The result can be viewed from the university website at www.iu.ac.bd, he added.
