Workshop on pourashava visioning held

The participants at a day long workshop on “Pourasava vision” on Thursday highlighted various local problems and made different recommendations for increasing civic amenities including repair and renovation of roads, culverts, pavements and drainage systems, expansion of street -light arrangement and water supply networks in Netrakona pourashava. They emphasized the need for ensuring people-friendly service delivery network of the pourashava, designing people-oriented poura-budget and making and executing all the development projects properly by ensuring transparency and accountability to build up the Netrakona pourashava as a “modern town”. The speakers also hailed the government for including the Netrakona pourasava under the third Urvan Government Infrastructure and Improvement Project (UGIIP-III) with a view to develop the pourashva into a class one pourashava. Netrakona Pourashava organized the workshop at local public hall here to collect information and suggestions from the grass-root level pourasava citizens and civil society members about the local problems, long-felt demands and methods of designing, evaluating and implementing the development projects undertaken by the UGIIP-III to develop the pourashava. The member of the planning commission Uzzaal Bikash Datta addressed the inaugural session of the workshop as chief guest while mayor of Netrakona pourasava Prasanta Kumar Ray was in the chair. The session was addressed, among others, by Deputy Commissioner Netrakona DR Abul Kalam Azad, Police Super Netrakona Jakir Hussain Khan, economist of UGIIP-III Abu Hena Mohammad Mustafa, team leader of the UGIIP-III Vincent ROTGE and Senior Urvan Planning Specialist Dr Mohsin Uddin Ahmed.
Cop held for eve teasing in Jhenidah

Villagers of Maladharpur under Moheshpur upazila caught a police constable for teasing a house wife over mobile phone and sent him to Mohespur police station on Thursday. The stalker is Sohel Rana son of Motiar Rahman of Bade-Khanpur village under Chowgacha upazila in Jessore. Sohel is now in service of Jhenidah police lines. Mizanur Rahman, brother of the house wife said, his brother-in law Anwar Hossain stays is Maldiv. This stalker Sohel teases his sister (mother of two daughters) for long. They have tried to resist the cop from this stalking several times but it did no effect.
Pedestrian killed in road accident

One pedestrian was killed in a road accident on Kurigram-Ulipur road at 7pm on Friday. The deceased was identified as Hazi Rahmat Ali 65 of village Sadulla under Tabokpur union of Ulipur upazila.Local sources said a motor cycle rider knocked the pedestrian at Hamirbazzar point on the road causing he was killed on the spot.The agitated villagers blocked the road suspending of vehicles movement for two hours protesting the matter. Later police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The motor cycle rider along with the motor bike fled away after the incident.
