Illegal medicine trader convicted in Barisal

A mobile court in Barisal on Friday fined an illegal cosmetic and medicine trader in the city. The punished accused was Mofij Talukdar of Sirajdikhan Maddhyapara under Munshiganj district. Mahbubur Rahman, assistant sub inspector of armed police battalion, said on basis of a tip off a team of APBN raided a room of residential hotel Jilani at Chalkerpool area of the city on Friday noon. There from the room of Mofijur Rahman on second floor of the hotel, huge illegal cosmetics and medicines smuggled from India were recovered. Law enforcers seizing the illegal goods arrested Mofij and produced him before the mobile court led by Madmuda Begum, administrative magistrate of district administration. The court examining witnesses and evidences sentenced accused Mofij Talukdar to six-month imprisonment and fined Tk 20 thousand.
Programmes to observe Victory Day in Khulna

Khulna district administration is set programmes to celebrate December 16 the 45th anniversary of the Bangalees glorious victory over the Pakistani occupation forces, pledging to establish a non-communal prosperous and developed Bangladesh. To observe the day, elaborate programmes has been taken up at a meeting on November 15 in the conference room of deputy commissioner office. Elites, officials, educationists, journalists, political and cultural activists of the city attended in the meeting. The programme of the day placing of wreaths on the monument of Shaheed martyrs of Gallyamari after the sunrise on December 16. The day will be heralded by a 31-gun salute at dawn at the Khulna Police Line Ground. Khulna divisional commissioner Md. Abdus Samad will be hoisting the national flag at Khulna Zilla School Ground and will take salute from the parade.
Youth held with firearm, bullets in Magura
MAGURA: Police in a drive arrested a youth with a foreign-made pistol, a magazine and six bullets from Charmahespur village under Sripur upazila of the district last night. The arrested was Minu Mridha, 26, son of Yadh Ali Mridha, a resident of the same village. On a tip-off, a team of the police conducted the drive in the area and arrested Minu and recovered the firearm and bullets after searching his body, said Officer-in-Charge of Sripur Police Station. A case was filed in this connection, reports BSS.
5,263 blankets sanctioned for Chuadanga
CHUADANGA: The Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management has sanctioned 5,263 pieces of blankets for distribution among destitute people of four upazilas of the district during the current winter season. Chuadanga District Relief and Disaster Management Office sources said, of the total blankets, 1,548 pieces have been sanctioned for Chuadanga Sadar upazila, 1,515 pieces for Alamdanga upazila, 1,320 pieces for Damurhuda upazila and 880 pieces for Jibannagar upazila. The allocated blankets have already been sent to the concerned upazilas for distribution among the poor people shortly, the sources added, reports BSS.
One held with 60 tola gold in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: Police arrested a man along with 60 tola gold from Kamarkhali Garai Bridge Toll Plaza area on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Madhukhali upazila on Friday night. The arrestee was identified as Habibar Rahman, 52. Saiful Islam, sub-inspector of Madhukhali Police Station, said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a bus of HR Paribahan around 11.30pm. Later, the law enforcers recovered 60 tola gold after searching Habibar’s body and arrested him, reports BSS.

Robbers loot 2 houses in Sylhet

Robbers looted valuables including gold ornaments and cash from two houses at Rahimpur village of Bishwanath upazila early Saturday.
Rafikul Islam, sub-inspector of Bishwanath Police Station, said a gang of masked robbers, numbering 20-25, stormed into the houses of Qatar expatriate Mokhlis Ali and London expertriate Mahmud Ali at the village in Khajanchi union parishad around 2.30am breaking the locks of doors.
Later the gang robbed 15 tola gold ornaments, TK 2 lakh cash, 11 mobile phone sets, two digital cameras and other valuables from the house of Mokhles and 6 tola gold ornaments, TK 55,000 cash, one laptop, six mobile phone sets and other valuables keeping the house inmates hostage at gun point, according to Sabbir Ahmed, son of Mokhles, and Ahmad Ali, son of Mahmud Ali.
On information police visited the houses.
