710 phensidyl bottles recovered

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive recovered 710 bottles of phensedyl syrup worth Tk 2.48 lakh from Mirganj border area in Bagha upazila on Tuesday evening. Tipped off that a group of miscreants were smuggling a large consignment of phensedyl through Mirganj border, a team of the border guards conducted a drive there and recovered 710 bottles of the contraband syrup in an BGB battalion 1. The BGB members could not arrest any one in this connection.
Opinion exchange on good governance held in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Speakers at an opinion exchange meeting here on Wednesday said good governance is the most important factor for making effective a friendly relationship between the people and local government bodies at the grassroots. The meeting on the ‘Challenges in the establishment of good governance and the way of recovery’ was arranged by the Committee of the Concerned Citizen (CCC), Chapainawabganj of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) in the conference room of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila Parishad. With Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Iftekhar Uddin Shamim in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by deputy commissioner (DC) of Chapainawabganj Md. Mahmudul Hasan as chief guest, acting chairman of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila Parishad Maolana Sohrab Ali and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rev) Toufiqul Islam as special guests. CCC President Selina Begum was also present. CCC Vice President Golam Faruk Mithun and CCC member Umme Salma Happy took part in the meeting as presenters. The concept paper on the main theme of the meeting was presented by NSM Mahbubur Rahman Mintu, reports BSS.
Tribute paid to late journalists in Bagerhat

Under the auspices of Bagerhat Press Club a special meeting cum Doa Mahfil was held in its auditorium on Wednesday in order to pay tributes to its late 9 journalists and pray for the salvation of their departed souls with its President Adv. Md. Shah Alam Tuku in the chair. The late journalists are Shaikh Amjad Ali Gorai Mia, Mozaharul Islam Babu Mia, Abdul Bari Izaradar, SM. Maher Uddin, Freedom Fighter Rafiqul Islam Khokon, Freedom Fighter Shahab Uddin Ahmed, Dr. Mujibor Rahman, Shaikh Najibar Rahman Principal Mir Zulfikar Ali Lulu. On the occasion Quran-Khani was held in the morning. It was followed by a discussion meeting on the lives and works of the late journalists. Al-haj Adv. Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-2 who is the founder President of the Club while was addressing the meeting as the chief guest he paid rich tributes to the late journalists and requested present members of the club to follow their (late Journalists) ideals. It was also addressed among others by journalists Adv. Md. Mozaffor Hossain, Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, Boisnu Prosad Chkrabaty, Shaikh Ahsanul Karim, Moazzem Hossain Majnu, Nakib Sirajul Haq, and Neamul Hadi Rana. After the end of the discussion meeting a special prayer was held for the salvation of the departed souls of the late nine journalists of the club.
Killings in Rohingyas protested
CHUADANGA: A human chain protesting the persistent oppression and killing of Rohingya minorities in Rakhine State of Myanmar was formed here yesterday morning. Zila Ulama Parishad organised the demonstration at Shaheed Hassan Chattar of the district town at 10am holding banners and placards inscribed with anti-violence slogans. They demanded an immediate end to the sectarian violence against the ethnic minority, reports UNB.
