Late autumn festival Nabanna Utsav held

The Nabanna Utshab-1423, new harvesting season at late autumn, was observed colourfully by Dalit Matua Community on Friday at Amritangan of Natun Bazar area in Barisal with the slogan ‘Natun Dhanney Hobey Nabanna Aaj Shukrabar’ . Matua Samprodaya, the Hindu Dalits sect of farmers, agricultural workers and followers of Hari Guruchand Thakur, organized this Nabanna or ‘the festival of new harvest’ during the Bangla month of Agrahayan (Nov-Dec).’ Mon diey Krishi Karo, Pujo Mati Mae, Mone Rekho, Bechey Achho, Matir Kripae’ (do agriculture earnestly, worship the mother-earth, remind that, you are living on courtesy of the soil), was the theme of the festival. Central leader of Puja Committee Tapos Kumar Pal attending the programme as chief guest inaugurated the festival in morning presided over by community leader Probitra Abotar Moha Motuacharja, convener of the festival committee. Participants of the festival called for end of inner and inter-communal discriminations and to observe the Nabanna Utsav officially as a national cultural festival. Dr. Gokul Chandra Bishwas, president of the Hari-Guruchand Samprodaya Matua Mandir Committee, Manik Mukherjee Kudu, Swapan Datta, Suranjit Datta Litu Rabindra Nath Adhikari, Narayan Chandra Dey Naru, Nittananda Majumdar, community leaders, Saidur Rahman Rintu, Sadar upazila chairman, Gazi Nazmul Hasan Litu, local councilor, addressed the inaugural session of the festival.
Awareness raising on disability, media campaign held

A meeting on ‘Growing awareness on disability and media campaign’ was held at Daulatpur Girls High School on Thursday under the auspices of Disabled Rehabilitation and Research Association (DRRA). A M Naimur Rahman Durjoy, MP, Manikganj-1, was present in the function as the chief guest and it was presided over by Debesh Das, Representative of DRRA. Upazila Chairman of Daulatpur Tozammel Huque Toja, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shafiur Rahman, Secretary of Niketan, a Netherlands funded NGO Enoniate Thurmosweeden, Dalima Rahman, Project coordinator of DRRA among others, spoke on the occasion. The speakers urged the people to assist the disabled people to grow up them as working skilled person. The disabled are not the burden of the society and they may grow up as natural assets with the help of the people as well as the government, the speakers added. The meeting ended with a cultural function participated by the disabled persons.
Miscreants kill driver in Jhenaidah

The miscreants in the midnight of Wednesday have killed an easy bike driver by noosing and looted his three-wheeler. The police in Sailkupa recovered the body of Ilias Hossain, 26, of Gopalpur village in Sailkupa upazila of the district. Sailkupa police station officer in charge Ttarikul Islam said, acting on information the police recovered the body from a paddy plot at Gobindapur, about three kilometers from the upazila head quarters at about 4 pm.The body was sent to Jhenaidah Sadar hospital morgue for post mortem examination. The police was processing to file a case in this regard. Ilias might be killed wheen he refused to hand over his easy bike to the miscreants during the night, the police said.
