Fugitive held with Yaba tablets
NARAIL: A convicted fugitive was arrested with Yaba tablets in a drive at Ramsidi village in Sadar upazila of the district on Wednesday. Sources concerned said the arrestee was identified as Liton Kazi, 35, son of Karamot Ali of the village. Earlier, Liton Kazi was jailed for five years in a drug peddling case. Acting on a tip off, a team of the detective branch (DB) lead by assistant sub- inspector (ASI) Hasan Ali conducted the drive at the house of Liton and arrested him with 305 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets. The fugitive convict was sent to the jail, the sources added, reports BSS.
Three school buildings being constructed
MYMENSINGH: Construction of one-storied building for three government primary schools in the Sadar upazila of the district is progressing fast. Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is implementing the project at a cost of Taka 1.5 crore for a better accommodation of students and ensuring a congenial academic atmosphere at the schools. LGED sources said the schools are -Tan Hasadia Government Primary School, Pandapara Government Primary School and Reaz Uddin Government Primary School. When contacted Upazila Engineer Ashrafuzzaman told BSS that 30 percent of the work on the project have already been completed and the remaining work would be accomplished within the next December.The sources said after completing the construction the LGED will supply necessary furniture to the respective schools, reports BSS.
Field-day on BRRIdhan-62 held
NARAIL: Farmers field-day on harvesting Zink BRRIdhan 62 was held at Raghunathpur village under Sadar upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Helal Mahmud Sharif formally inaugurated the field day. A discussion meeting was oganised on the occasion. Deputy director of District Agriculture Extension Department Sheikh Aminul Haque chaired the function while Deputy Commissioner Md Helel Mahmud Sharif spoke as the chief guest. The chief guest said Bangladesh has no deficiency in food. He said, “We have attained self-sufficiency in the food sector. Now we need nutrition. For this, we need cultivation of the Zink variety paddy as the BRRIdhan 62 has manifold nutritious elements.” He told the farmers that the Zink paddy is a short duration crop. At least 15 maunds of paddy can be produced from one bigha of land within 100 days. The agriculture department is inspiring the farmers to cultivate the Zink variety paddy. The meeting was addressed, among others, by Narail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nasima Khatun, District Seeds Distribution Officer SM Fardus and Upazila Agricultural Officer Md Shahidul Islam. The district agriculture department distributed Zink BRRIdhan 62 seeds among 875 farmers, reports BSS.
World Diabetes Day observed

The World Diabetes Day was observed on Monday in Sylhet and as elsewhere in the world aiming to make people aware of the disease, with its theme as ‘Eyes on Diabetes’.Different government and non-government organisations arranged various programmes to observe the day. The organisers focused on early diagnosis and treatment of type-2 diabetes and using treatments to reduce the risks of developing any serious complications. Sylhet Diabetic Somittie organised a rally, a discussion meeting on Sylhet Diabetic Hospital campus marking the day. SDS brought out the rally, led by its Chairman Dr Abdur Rakib, at 8.45 am and paraded its campus. Sylhet Diabetic Somittie Vice Chairman AFM Kamal, Dr, Altabur Rahman, General Secretary Lukman Ahmed, Dr M A Mannan, AZM Mahbub Ahmed, Jamil Ahmed, Anm Shofiqul Hoque, Aiyub Ali, Aftab Chowdhury also spoke the meeting,  

The Speakers Said, Diabetic patients are on the rise in the country as its number here stood at 7.1 million in 2015 putting Bangladesh on the 10th position among the countries having the highest number of diabetic patients in the world. In Bangladesh, the number of both type 1 and type-2 diabetic patients among the children is on the rise, according to experts. The World Diabetes day was first introduced in 1991, and founded by both the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization. In reaction to the rise in the cases of diabetes worldwide, it was decided to choose a day of the year to raise awareness about diabetes and related causes. The day chosen was the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, a medical scientist, who co-discovered insulin, and was the first person to use it on humans.

Agri-tech Fair ends
A four-day long ‘Agri-tech fair’ concluded in Sylhet on Sunday. on the Occasion a Discussion meeting and prize giving ceremony was held at the premises of Krishi office in Dhopadighirpar area.DAE Additional Director, Sylhet division, Krishna Chandra Hore was present on the occasion as the chief guest, while Deputy Director Md Abul Hashem presided over it. Project Director of the project ‘Raising Crop Intensity in Sylhet Region’ Md. Wahiduzzaman attended as the special guest. Speakers, including agriculture scientists, farmers and officials, have laid emphasis on adopting modern technology in agriculture sector to enhance the production in Sylhet Division.Shofiquzzaman, Rashida Akther, Abdul Ahad Shahin, Delwar Hossain, Tanjina Akther, Aminul Islam Also Spoke
The Speakers said, the government has already taken up programme to ensure quality seeds, setting demonstration plots, organising field day, training for farmers and agriculture officials at grassroots level with a view to raising the crops’ yield all over the country. Besides, engaging womenfolk in the process of farming, harvesting, storing and preservation of seeds would help much achieving the goal, the event was told.
The farmers at all levels should be motivated for selecting high yielding varieties of onion, mustard, sunflower and lentil, the speakers said, adding, besides we need monitoring of the whole process of farming.
