Seminar held in Rangpur

A seminar on ‘Compact Township for saving Arable Lands and Planned Housings for All’ was held at RDRS auditorium in Rangpur City on Sunday. The seminar was organised by Compact Township Foundation, Dhaka , Bangladesh, a non-government organisation.Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu attended the seminar as chief guest while President of Rangpur Press club Sadrul Alam Dulu in the chair.The speakers said that Compact Township is indispensable for saving cultivable lands to grow crops in order to feed ever increasing population. Compact Township the concept of ‘a planned small town in rural area’ designated for an agglomeration of dwelling houses, hospitals, educational institutions, markets, rural industries and local government units with all basic services for people , especially in the rural area. Around 5 thousand families can live in per small town, according to the concept. About 140 million (14 crores) people can live in such seven thousand small towns, it was disclosed in the seminar. General Secretary, Compact Township Foundation,Dhaka Bangladesh Dr. Abul Hossain presented the keynote paper while Ekram Hossain, CORE group member of the foundation moderated the seminar. Among others, noted educationist Prof Mohammad Shah Alam, Prof Khandokar Fakhrul Anam Benju, Dr. Mofizul Islam Mantu, Adv Monir Chowdhury, journalists Nazrul Mridha, Mahbubar Rahman and Wadud Ali also addressed the seminar.
Advocacy meeting of FP held in Sylhet

An advocacy meeting and press briefing was held at the conference room of Divisional office on Tuesday morning to ensure ‘Service Week’ of Family Planning (FP) department to be held from Nov 12- 17. The meeting was organized by the family planning department chaired by Deputy Director of Sylhet FP DR Lutfur Nahar. Divisional Director of Sylhet FR Md. Kutub Uddin attended the meeting as the chief guest. Explaining the object of the Service Week Kutub Uddin said that the department wants to accelerate their work in the field of family planning activities by serving the mother and babies motivating the people to adopt the various methods and thorough these activities they want to achieve the national target.
One killed in Sylhet road accident
A woman was killed in a road accident in Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Adorini Rani, 60, of Gowainghat Upazila. The incident occurred when a CNG run auto-rickshaw dashed against her. Chairman of Gowainghat Upazila Abdul Hakim Chowdhury said the accident occurred around 10 am on Sylhet-Gowainghat road when she was returning with her grand-daughter from the school. Adorini died on the spot, he added. OC of Gowainghat Thana Md Jahangir Hossain confirmed the news.
Fake homoeopathist jailed in Barguna
BARGUNA: A mobile court here on Monday jailed a fake homeopathic doctor to a three-month imprisonment for running illegal pharmacy and treating patients. Acting on a tip off, the mobile court led Executive Magistrate Pramatha Ranjan Gatok raided Shaheed Smriti Foundation Homeopathic Pharmacy in the town and arrested the owner of the pharmacy and fake doctor Monirul Islam, 45. Islam had been treating patients using the fake identity of a homeopathic doctor. Monirul Islam was sent to jail, police said, reports BSS.
Youth electrocuted in Jessore
JESSORE: A youth was electrocuted at Jagomanpur village in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday. The deceased was identified as Rezaul Islam, 22, son of Monirul Islam of the same village. Police and hospital sources said Rezaul was seriously injured as he got electric shock at a house of the village at about 9.30 am. Locals rushed him to Jessore 250-bed hospital in critical condition but where the attending doctor declared him dead, reports BSS..
