Construction worker electrocuted at Charmonai

A construction worker has been killed after electrocuted during working at the site of building students hostel of Charmonai Madrasa recently. The victim was identified as Abdur Rashid, 31, son of late Helal Khandokar, from ward-7 under Charmonai union of Barisal Sadar upazila. Abul Kalam, ward master of Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, said Abdur Rashid was electrocuted at about 12:00 noon and brought to SBMCH at about 2:00 PM Wednesday. Dr. Das Ranobir, medical officer of the SBMCH emergency unit declared him as dead, the hospital sources added.
Two GB officials sentenced
Two former officials of Grameen Bank (GB) sentenced to 10 years imprisonments for misappropriating deposits of customers by using fake signatures recently. The sentenced two accused were Delwar Hossain and Shah Alam, former manager and officer of Raipasha-Karapur branch under Barisal district of Grameen Bank. Dilip Kumar Bhoumik, judge of the divisional special court, after examining 15 witnesses and other documents and evidences declared this verdict in absentia of the absconding two accused. The court also fined each of the two accused Tk.25 lakhs or to serve more six months in jail in default. Harunor Rashid, bench clerk of the court, narrating the case story in brief said the both accused while working at Raipasha-Karapur branch of GB from March 10 to July 31 of 2011, misappropriated Tk 17.25 lakhs from the ‘deposit double in 7-year’ accounts of 9 customers by using fake signatures. Wazed Ali Gazi, assisant director of Anti Corruption Commission, receiving allegations of the customers lodged a case in this connection against the two accused with Barisal Kotwali police station on October 3, 2012. Bahadur Alam, AD of ACC, submitted charge sheet against the both accused on October 14, 2014, court sources said.
Boat race held in Bagerhat

Under the auspices of Khan HabiburRahman, Mayor of Bagerhat Pourashava a traditional boat race (Nauka Bice) of rural Bangla was held in the river Daratana on the bank of which Bagerhat district town stands on Tuesday afternoon with duje pomp and splendor. Dr, Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and president of Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Awami League ceremonially inaugurated the boat race at Muniganj. As many as 24 boats participated in the boat race in 3 phases. The boat belonging to Najmul Karim Jhilam became the champion while the boat belonging to Saiful Islam Sohel and the boat belonging to Madaripur district Chatra League became 2nd and 3rd respectively in the race. Dr. Mozammel Hossai, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 distributed the prizes among the owners of the winner boats in a function held on the bank of the river Daratan on the day with Mayor Khan Habibur Rahman in the chair. The first prize was Tk.1 (one) lakh, 2nd prize was Tk.75 thousand and 3rd prize was Tk.25 thousand. Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat was present in the boat race function as the special guest. The function was also attended by Pankaj Ranjan Roy, Police Super, Bagerhat, Md. Shafikul Islam, Deputy Director of Local Governments, Md. Mamunul Hasan, ADC (General), Bagerhat, Mamunur Rashid, Additional District Magistrate, Bagerhat, Adv. Shitarani Debnath, President of Bagerha district unit of Bangladesh (Woman) Awami League and Shaikh Bashirul Islam Baschu, UP Chairman and President of Bagerhat Poura Awami League. On the occasion thousand of people assembled on the banks of the river Daratana to witness the boat race.
