Four-day long Krishi Projukti Mela begins

A four-day long ‘Krishi Projukti Mela 2016’ begins in Sylhet on Thursday at the premises of Krishi office in Dhopadighirpar area . DAE Additional Director, Sylhet division, Krishna Chandra Hore was present on the occasion as the chief guest, while Deputy Director Md Abul Hashem presided over it. Project Director of the project ‘Raising Crop Intensity in Sylhet Region’ Md. Wahiduzzaman attended as the special guest. Speakers, including agriculture scientists, farmers and officials, have laid emphasis on adopting modern technology in agri sector to enhance the production in Sylhet Division. They came up with the remarks at the inaugural function of a four-day ‘Krishi Projukti Mela 2016′ in Sylhet Thursday on the premises of Krishi office in Dhopadighirpar area. Sylhet region has also a good prospect of diversified crops through raising irrigation facilities and using high yielding variety seeds of all high-value crops, the speakers added.They also said production could easily be raised by 15 per cent to 20 per cent if the uses of quality seeds can be ensured. The government has already taken up programme to ensure quality seeds, setting demonstration plots, organising field day, training for farmers and agriculture officials at grassroots level with a view to raising the crops’ yield all over the country. Besides, engaging womenfolk in the process of farming, harvesting, storing and preservation of seeds would help much achieving the goal, the event was told.
Husband allegedly kills wife in Narail
NARAIL: A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband over family feud at Paikra village in Sadar upazilaon THursdays morning. The victim was identified as Nasima Khatun, 25, wife of Tahlim Bhuiyan.Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.After the incident, Tahlim and his family members fled away, police said. “We are conducting investigation into the matter to know whether it is a suicide or murder case,” said sub-inspector (SI) of Sadar Thana Sekhar Chandra Mallik, reports BSS,
38 persons open TINs in Gaibandha IT Fair
GAIBANDHA: A total of 38 persons opened their taxpayers’ identification number (TIN) willingly in a tax fair held here from November 01 to November 04 to help the government push forward the country towards development. Not only that as many as 295 tax payers who have the TINs submitted their income tax returns of TK 47.46 lakh during the period and a booth of Sonali Bank was also set up to collect the cash from the tax payers. This was disclosed by assistant commissioner of taxes Mohammad Ali while exchanging his views on the tax fair with a number of journalists at his office of the town on Wednesday.Mohammad Ali also said submission tendency of income tax returns also increased this year, reports BSS.
Kazi, groom jailed for arranging child marriage in Barguna
A mobile court here jailed one kazi [marriage registrar] and a bridegroom for one month each for arranging the marriage of an underage girl in Betagi municipality area of the district on Wednesday night. Kazi Kamrul Hasan Nawab completed preparations for holding marriage of the 13-year-old girl with Mehedi Hasan, 19, son of Md Younus Bapari of Maheshpur village under Bakerganj upazila. Being informed, Betagi police reached the spot and foiled the wedding. The police arrested the kazi and groom for arranging the marriage. Later, the police handed over the arrested persons to the mobile court led by Betagi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Mahmudur Rahman which awarded the punishment. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Begati police said the arrested persons were sent to jail this morning.
