Idol ransacked in Jhalakathi

Miscreants ransacked an Idol of Devi Kali at Ponabalia Sarbajonin Kali Mandir (temple) under Sadar upazila of C district on Sunday early morning. Muhammad Abdur Rakib, additional superintendent of police at Jhalakathi, visiting the spot said police started investigation and miscreants would be nabbed as soon as possible. Liton Chandra Shil, secretary of the Mandir committee, said worshiping of the Idol at the temple was done normally on Saturday at night. However, at about 6:00 AM Sunday, we found the Idol as fully ransacked damaging the temple and informed local people and police. The temple situated on three decimal Debottar (dedicated to god for worship) land and there was some dispute over that land property. The Mandir committee will lodge a formal prayer for investigation about the incident, Liton added.
Advocacy workshop on water, sanitation held

Environmental sanitation in health care facilities is a neglected thematic area that needs greater attention. Health facilities in low and middle income countries lack basic requirements for good hygiene including safe reliable water supplies and adequate sanitation. Patients, visitors and health care facility staff require a level improve, maintain and extend the benefit of water and sanitation services inside the health facilities at community level of hygiene that makes services attractive and safe” expressed by Ms. Marie-Jeanne Hautbois, the Country Representative of Terre des Hommes Foundation-Switzerland in an advocacy meeting on Water and Sanitation for Health. Under a mechanism of collaboration with Caritas Switzerland, Terre Des Hommes Foundation organised a day long advocacy workshop in Kurigram. Mrs. Makhduma Nargis, Secretary, Chief Coordinator CBHC under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare attended as Chief Guest while Mr. Md. Wali Ullah, Chief Engineer, Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), Dr. Jahangir Alam Sarker, Director of Primary Health Care, DGHS and AKM Mahbubur Rahman Joarder, Director MIS, of DGFP participated in the event. Mr. Shahid Kamal-Deputy Country Director, Mr. James S Biswas – National Coordinator AFHR , Mr Md. Rahmatullah Faruque – National Coordinator – WASh & DRRof Terre des hommes Foundation are also participated in the workshop. The Objectives of the event were: To share about the water, sanitation and hygiene status in the community health care facilities with the support from Tdh in Kurigram on improving water, sanitation, and hygiene in community health facilities in Kurigram Sadar, Chilmari, Ulipur Upazila under Kurigram district.
Truck driver stabbed to death in Jessore

Sumon Hossain, 27, driver of a truck and resident of Bakchar area in Jessore town, was hacked to death at Bakchar on Sunday afternoon. M Shanto, brother in-law of the dead told that Sumon died at Jessore General Hospital at around 5pm on Sunday after he had been stabbed by some assailants at around 4 pm at Bakchar. ‘Miscreants attacked Sumon with sharp weapons while he was standing there’, he added. Ilias Hossain, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station told that details were not known immediately.
