Two police officers killed in Des Moines

Two police officers have been killed in “ambush style attacks” in the US state of Iowa, police say.
The first officer was found shot in the Urbandale area of Des Moines at 01:06 local time (06:06 GMT) on Wednesday. The second was found 20 minutes later several blocks away.

Ethiopia ‘releases 2,000 detainees’

Ethiopia has released around 2,000 people detained for partaking in recent anti-government protests, according to the country’s defense minister.
The Ethiopian government imposed a six-month nationwide state of emergency on October 9 after months of protests by members of the country’s two largest ethnic groups, the Oromo and the Amhara. Civilians are restricted from contacting so-called “outside forces” on social media and from organizing demonstrations at schools or universities, among other prohibitions.

Saudi Prince flogged in court-ordered punishment

A prince of Saudi Arabia’s ruling Al Saud family was given lashes in a prison in Jeddah as a court-ordered punishment, a Saudi newspaper reported on Wednesday, less than a month after the kingdom executed another prince for murder.
The brief report in Okaz daily did not disclose the offence for which he was being punished but said the unidentified prince was also ordered to serve a prison sentence.

Fugitive killed in Oklahoma gun battle

A fierce gun battle with Oklahoma troopers left a homicide suspect dead and ended a weeklong manhunt for the man suspected in a string of violent crimes across the state, including the killing of two relatives and the shooting of three law enforcement officers.
After a tip from a farmer led authorities on Sunday to a camp site near Hammon in far western Oklahoma, the manhunt intensified for Michael Dale Vance Jr., who had posted two Facebook Live videos on Oct. 24 documenting his run from police, said Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Paul Timmons.
