Drug smuggler arrested in Kurigram

One top drug smuggler in Kurigram was arrested and sent to jail on Friday evening. The arrestee was identified as Selim Mia, 29, son of late Kachua Mamud of Chamrergola area under Kurigram municipality and top alcoholic drug smuggler and trader of the district.MA Farook Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kurigram Sadar police station, toldTthe New Nation that Selim had been smuggling and trading among the drug addicted of the district for 2007. There are eight cases with the police station against him redarding this incident.”Selim is a drug addicted and escaped accused. He was arrested with 550 gm of Gaza from NR Plaza market of Kurigram town at 8:00 pm on October 27,” said Farook.He was sent to Kurigram prison through Kurigram Chief Judicial Court on Friday noon he added.
Maha Shamshan Dipali Utshav observed

Two-day long Maha Shamshan Dipali Utsav of Hindu community members of Barisal ended on Saturday at Barisal Maha Shamshan Ghats and Dipabali and Diwali Utsav at their houses. The Maha Shamshan Ghats (burning spot or cremation-grounds and grave yard of the parts of Hindu dead bodies) became over crowded with thousands of the members of the Hindu community came from different parts of the country and outside, to attend the ceremony and festival. Narayan Chandra Dey Naru, former secretary of Barisal Maha Shamshan Rakkha Committee , said ‘Maha Shamshan Dipali’ festival observes in the sub-continent only at Adi-Shamshan Ghat of Natun Bazaar and Maha Shamshan Ghat of Kawnia, two crematoriums in Barisal city , since 1850.
4 shops gutted in Rampal

Some four shops were gutted when a fire broke out at Dakkhin Tetulia-Battala of village Pipulbunia under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district in the early hours on Thursday. It is learnt from Al-haj Zamil Hossain alias Zamu, Chairman of the concerned Union that the fire originated from an electricity short circuit in a tea stall belonging to one Prokash Mandol at 3 pm (night) spread to its adjacent shops while the shop keepers were sleeping. When the shop keepers and the villagers woke up the fire already went out of control and it engulfed as many as 4 shops. Shop keepers and the locals tried to extinguish the fire but in vain. Being informed of the matter when a fire brigade unit rushed to the spot from Mongla Port town all the 4 shops with their all belongings were completely burnt to ashes. The loss of fire is estimated at Tk.3 lakh. The fire victim shop-keepers are Prokash Mandol, Robin Roy, Ranajit Kirtoneya and Nasir Uddin.
