View exchange meeting held in Gopalganj

A discussion and view exchange meeting on artificial insemination was held at Muktijuddah Complex Conference Room in Gopalganj town on Wednesday. Bangabandhu Artificial Insemination (AI) Technicians Kalyan Association, Gopalganj District Unit organised the meeting. Above hundred voluntary field workers have participated in the discussion meeting and urged to the higher authority to take necessary initiative how to develop the live stock sector in the district. S. M. Suman, General Secretary, Central Committee, Bangabandhu AI Technician Kalyan Association preside the chair and Farid Ahmed Daria, President Gopalganj Press Club spoke as the chief guest. Among others, Dr. Hasanur Zaman, Assistant Director (AD) (AP), District Artificial Insemination Centre, Gopalganj, Dr. Ataur Rahman Chowdhury, District Live Stock Officer (DLO), Gopalganj Gobinda Chandra Sarder, Upazila Live Stock Officer, Gopalganj Sadar were spoken on the occasion.
Two fishermen jailed for catching hilsa
JHALAKATH: mobile court on Wednesday sentenced two fishermen to one year’s imprisonment each for catching hilsa fish defying the government imposed ban. Upazila fisheries department conducted a drive on Wednesday morning in the Sugandha and Bishkhali River of Nalchity upazila of the district and arrested the fishermen, an official of the department said. During the drive, the fisheries department seized 6,000 meters current nets and one mound (40-kg) of hilsa. The detained fishermen were produced before the mobile court, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Shah Mohammad Kamrul Huda. The court accordingly handed down the verdict.Later, the seized hilsa were distributed among local orphanages and the current nets burnt in presence of the concerned officials. The government has imposed a ban on catching, selling, transportation and hoarding of hilsa from October 12 to November 2, reports BSS.
5 shops gutted in Pirojpur fire
PIROJPUR: Five shops were gutted as a fire broke out at Dakkhin Bazar in Bhandaria upazila on Friday. Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Bhandaria Police Station, said the fire originating from electric short circuit broke out at a plastic shop owned by one Shafiqur Rahman and spread soon. On information, two firefighting units from Jhalakati district and Kaukhali upazila rushed in and doused the flame after one hour of frantic effort. The affected shop owners claimed that the extent of loss caused by the fire would be Tk 30 lakh, reports UNB.
Minor boy drowns in Sirajganj

A minor boy drowned in a pond at Gulta Golapur village in Tarash upazila on Tuesday evening. The deceased was identified as Jobayer Hossain, 6, son of Asaduzzaman, a resident of the village. Locals said Jobayer slipped into the pond while he was playing beside it in the evening. Later, his body was recovered by locals from the pond after a frantic search at night.
Trader robbed of Tk 4.5 lakh in Jessore
BENAPOLE: Muggers looted Tk 4.5 lakh from a rice trader after stabbing him at Lautara village in Sharsha upazila of Jessore district on Thursday night. Victim Abdur Rauf told police that three muggers intercepted him in front of his business establishment around 9 pm and took away Tk 4.5 lakh after stabbing him repeatedly. He was taken to a local hospital, reports UNB.
