5 shops gutted in Mollahat

At least 5 shops were gutted when a big fire broke out in Kodalia Bazar under Mollahat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Wednesday night. It is reported that at the night at about10 pm the fire originated from an electricity short circuit in a shop spread to its adjacent shops and went out of control. On seeing the flame of fire and on hearing hue and cries of the shop keepers thousand of villagers rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for one hour. But by this time at least 5 shops and their all belongings were completely burnt to ashes. The loss of fire is yet to be estimated. The fire victim shop keepers are Anisul, Tarikul, Babar Molla, Shahidul Islam and Jewel.
Programme on biodiversity of nature held in Barisal

The programme of ‘let us introduce with biodiversity of nature for survival of human’ was held with naturalist Dwijen Sharma and students at Padda Pukur garden, at present BIWTA office, in the city on Friday. Charukala Barisal organised the programme calling a visit on the arena of biodiversity and an arranged children-juvenile painting quiz competition and exhibition of books and periodicals on nature, introducing with different varieties of trees, their origin, local and scientific names etc. At the end of the programme students hugging the trees took oaths for voluntarily working to save nature. The participants of painting competition were awarded prizes and certificates. Among others naturalist D wijen Sharma, his wife Devi Sharma, Altaf Hossain, president Charukala Barisal, Anisur Rahman Swapan, president Barisal Reporters Unity, Sushanta Ghosh, journalist and about hundred students and their guardians attended the programme. Naturalist Dwijen Sharma addressing the participants said trees are inseparable part of nature and human being could not survive without protection of nature.
Girl student killed in Kurigram road accident

A girl-student was killed in Banga Sonahat union under Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram district recently.The deceased was identified as Rina Khatun,14,daughter of Abdul Khalil of Bharoter Chhara village of the Banga Sonahat union and student of the class seven of Sonahat Girls’ High School in the union.Police and local sources said Rina was married out of her decision with a youth of the village seven days ago. She was trying to escape from her house and run on her house-adjacent Sonahat-Bhurungamari road at around 11:00 am while relatives of her new husband came in her house to receive her on the day. At that time a Sonahat-bound truck knocked her on the road at Laxmir Moor area of the union and she died on spot.After accident locals seized the truck and informed Bhurungamari police station.Police rushed to spot and recovered the body and the truck.Zia Latiful Islam, Officer-in-charge of the police station said “The truck driver managed to escape, but the truck has been brought in the police station. No case was filed yet in this connection.”
Five hurt in AL factional clash in Jessore

At least five activists of the ruling party Awami League were wounded in a clash between two groups of the party over holding by- election at Pashapole union council under Chaugachha upazila in Jessore on Thursday night. The wounded – Rabiul Islam, 45, Amirul Islam, 39, Kamal Hossain Tito,28, Milon Mollah, 30 and Rubel Hossain, 28 – were rushed to Chaugachha upazila health complex. Confirming the information M Moshiur Rahman, officer in-charge, Chaugachha police station told that an incident of light clash was taken place at Bariali Bazar. Locals said two groups of the ruling party led by Awami League nominated chairman candidate Obaidul Islam Sabuj and rebel Awami League candidate Shahin Reza locked in clashes at Bariali Bazar as two groups reached at the same place after attending a janaja prayer.
Both the groups accused the opponent for the clash. No case was lodged.
By election of the union council will be held on October 31. The post of chairman became vacant as chairman Abul Kashem was killed by miscreants on August 31.
