2 motorcyclists killed in Pirojpur road crash
PIROJPUR: Two motorcyclists were killed and two others injured in a collision between two motorcycles on Najirpur-Pirojpur road at Patpara in Sadar upazila on Friday. The deceased were identified as Quaiyum, 35 and Sumon, 20 of Sadar upazila. The collision took place between the two motorcycles around 9 am, leaving the two dead on the spot and two co-riders injured, said Hasnain Morshed, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station. The injured were rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital, reports UNB.
College girl commits suicide in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A college girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at a women hostel at Barnali intersection in the city on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Mahabuba Islam Munni, 17, a 1st year student of Rajshahi Masjid Mission School and College and daughter of Manirul Islam of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district. Quoting Bazlur Rahman, owner of Salma Khan Women Hostel, police said Munni used live at a room of the hostel alone and getting no response from Munni’s room, Habiba, a friend of her peeped into the room through its window only to see Munni hanging from the ceiling fan with a scarf around 9 pm, reports UNB.
Farmers field-day on harvesting BRRI dhan 56 was held
PANCHAGARH: Farmers field-day on harvesting BRRI dhan 56 was held on the courtyard of farmer Pasir Uddin in Hafizabad union under sadar upazila of the district. Sadar upazila agriculture officer Md Abdul Matin formally inaugurated the field day by cutting paddy as the chief guest. He said that cultivation of this variety would increase soon. This paddy is a draught tolerant. Draught situation could not hamper production this variety. Sushashon project under food security has distributed BRRI dhan56 seeds among 30 farmers at a cost of free this season. Each farmer got 5-kg seeds. The function was addressed among others, by RDRS Bangladesh Thakurgaon project manager under food security Sushason project Md Mahafuj Alam, RDRS Panchagarh programme manager Hasina Pervin, sub-assistant agriculture officer of sadar upazila Manjur Morshef Palash, reports BSS.
 Fishermen convicted for violating ban on hilsha catching
FARIDPUR: Twenty one fishermen were convicted by four mobile courts for violating ban on hilsha catching in two rivers of Faridpur district during the last two days. The courts also seized 4 maunds of hilsha and and one lakh meter of current net during the separate drives conducted on Wednesday and Thursday. During the drives, 21 fishermen were taken into custody with four maunds of hilsha and one lakh meter of current net while they were catching hilsha in padma and Araial Khan rivers violating government’s ban. Later, the fishermen were awarded imprisonment on different terms from 10 days to 15 days. The seized fishes were distributed among different orphanages of Faridpur. The current nets were also destroyed in presence of concerned officials, the courts sources said, reports BSS.
Van passenger killed in Bagerhat road accident

A van passenger was killed on the spot and 3 others including the van puller were injured when the van was dashed violently by a speeding passenger bus on Bagerhat-Khulna Highway in front of Bagerhat new court building on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Azim Shikdar (30), son of one late Emam Shaikh of village Baraikhali under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat district. The injured persons were identified as Alamgir Shikdar, brother of the deceased, van puller Sohrab Shikdar of the same village and Sayedur Rahman, a UP member of Ward No.8 of Saitgumbaz Union under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila. The injured persons were admitted to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for their treatment. Police seized the killer bus. But its driver and helper managed to escape.
