Birth anniv of Sheikh Russel observed in Jhenaidah

The 52nd birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel was observed in Jhenaidah on Tuesday. Organized by the District Children Affairs Department, discussion meeting, cultural programme and prize giving ceremony were held to mark the Day. Presided over by district children affairs officer Ayub Hossain Rana, deputy commissioner of Jhenaidah Mahbub Alam Talukder attended as chief guest in the discussion session. District Information officer MA Kabir, ex principal of Government Nurunnahar Women’s College NM Shahjalal, social worker Amir Hossain Malita and veteran political leader Manwar Hossain among others spoke. Another programme was chalked out following drawing of pictures, essay competition and recitation of poems in the afternoon. Presided over by the Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation Makbul Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdur Rouf Mandal attended as Chief Guest.Additional Superintendent of Police in Jhenaidah Azbahar Ali Seikh, UNO of Jhenaidah Sadar Mustafizur Rahman among others spoke during the programme. The speakers discussed on the life of Sheikh Russel and his other family members brutally killed by some unruly Army officers in 1975. The chief guest distributed prizes among the winners in drawing of pictures, essay competition and recitation of poems.
Drug traders arrested in Kurigram

Police arrested the top alcoholic drug trader of Kurigram district from Miapara village of Bhogdanga union under Sadar upazila on Wednesday. .The arrested was identified as Mohammad Robben (Rubel), 30, son of Khairul Islam of Miapara village of the Bhogdanga union and a top alcoholic drug smuggler and trader of the district.Faruck Hossain, Sub-Inspector of Kurigram Sadar police station, said Rubel is a top alcoholic drug smuggler and trader who has been trading of the drug for 15 years, but he is a warrant-listed accused from 2014. More five cases have been filed against him while he was out of scene. Police was searching him for long time . He would collect various drugs including Indian alcoholic drugs and sold those to local drug addicted people including people of another districts, said SI Faruck.”Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by me raided in his house of Miapara village at around 4:30 am on Wednesday and arrested him. He was sent to jail .

Convener of Muktijoddhar Sontan Command sent to jail after a businessman lodged a case under ICT act on Wednesday.
Shah Md. Awlad Hossain, officer in charge of Barisal Kotwali police station, acknowledged the fact, Manna was arrested on early Wednesday from his house after Shafikul Alam Gulzar, owner of ‘Haandi Kaarai’, a posh restaurant in the city, lodged a case against under section 57 of ICT act and sent to jail after producing before the court at afternoon, police sources said. Sheikh Sayeed Ahmed Manna was a BCL activist, former joint secretary of B M College Students Union, Convener of Muktijoddhar Sontan Command and son of Sheikh Qutubuddin Ahmed, district commander of Muktijoddha Sangsad.In the case complainant Gulzar alleged that Manna and his associates writing and spreading a false status in facebook about the restaurant insulted him and his business on October 4, 2016.

Drawing, quiz competitions held in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Drawing and quiz competitions of children and students of different educational institutions were held in the district on Wednesday. Committee of the Concerned Citizen (CCC), Chapainawabganj of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), arranged the daylong programme. The quiz competitions were held at a university, seven colleges and one madrasa at noon and a total of 642 students took part in the competitions. Later in the afternoon, the drawing competition was held at the CCC office in the town and 45 children from different schools participated in the competition.The CCC also arranged a three-day information fair which would be held on the Harimohon Government High School premises in association with the district administration.The government and non-government offices and organizations would participate in the fair to exhibit their activities and services, TIB sources said.The sources added that the fair would be held from October 27 to 29, reports BSS.
One held with pistol
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested an alleged arms trader with a pistol, two magazines and 10 rounds of bullets from Dadanchak under Shibganj upazila of the district on Wednesday night.The arrested person was identified as Md Shariful Islam, 26, son of Abdus Sattar of Charrashia under Shibganj upazila in the district.RAB said, acting on secret information, an operation team of the force from Chapainawabganj camp raided Dadanchak area around 7pm and arrested Shariful with the pistol and ammunition.
Later, the arrested person was handed over to the police with filing a case.
Anti-militancy meeting in held Natore
NATORE: An anti-militancy meeting was held in the auditorium of the Natore Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla Govt College here on Wednesday. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Kazi Ayubur Rahman presided over the meeting. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shaheena Khatun, superintendent of police Biplob Bijoy Talukder, Principal of Natore Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla Govt. College Professor Abdul Kudus Mirdha, Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Sajadur Rahman Khan, District Information Officer Md Samiul Alam and District Education Officer Md Amzad Hossain, among others, spoke on the occasion. The speakers urged the people to forge a united social movement against terrorism and militancy in the district.Teachers, students and people from all walks of life attended the meeting, reports BSS.
