Durga Puja preparatory meeting held
MYMENSINGH: A preparatory meeting for the celebration of Durga puja, the biggest festival of the Hindu community, was held on Thursday at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Khalilur Rahman chaired the meeting. The meeting discussed elaborately the matters related to celebration of Durga puja and necessary steps for peaceful celebration of the festival. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Harun-or-Rashid, President District Puja Udjapon Parishad Advocate Pranab Kumar Sha Roy, Secretary Advocate Rakhal Chandra, Convener of City Puja Udjapon Parishad Pradip Kumar, Member Secretary Uttam Chakraborty, President of Hindu Buddhist and Christian Oikka Parishad Advocate Bikash Roy, President of Motor Owner’s Association Momtaz uddin and other leaders and members of the law enforcing agencies and officials of the district administration were present. The meeting took decisions regarding security matters during the celebration and other related issues and its management and volunteers deployment. The leaders of the Puja Udjapon Parishad pointed out different problems and sought necessary security measures during the celebration. Deputy Commissioner said district and police administration have already taken necessary security measures and others arrangements for peaceful celebration of the festival, reports BSS.
JP Chairman Ershad to visit Sylhet today

Former President, Jatiya Party (JP) chairman Alhajj HM Ershad is set to visit Sylhet today. He will start his election campaigns after visiting the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) in Sylhet. Arches were erected while banners, festoons and billboards welcoming the JP chairman have been placed in different areas in Sylhet City and District. Sylhet zila JP convener Abdullah Siddiki told that all-out preparations have already been taken. People from all strata including all JP leader of Sylhet are waiting to welcome Jatiya Party (JP) chairman HM Ershad in the city, he added.
300 tonnes of rice allotted for Durga Puja in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: The government has sanctioned 300 tonnes of rice for 557 puja mandaps of the district to celebrate Sharadiya Durga Puja festival this year. The government allocated the rice under Gracious Relief (GR) for feeding the devotees of those puja mandaps, said District Disaster Management and Relief officer Abdur Sattar Khan. “We have already distributed the rice through district and upazila administrations.” he said. Each puja mandaps got 500-kg of rice. A total of 557 puja mandaps were erected in all seven upazilas of the district, reports BSS.
College student killed in road accident

A college student succumbed to his injuries at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital on Thursday afternoon after a truck hit him at noon. The victim was identified as Lokman Hossain, 18, son of Abdul Jalil from Dapdapia under Nalcity upazila of Jhalakathi and second year student of HSC at Govt. Barisal College, said Abul Kalam, ward master of SBMCH. He quoting attendants of the victim said Lokman when coming from his native home on motorcycle to Barisal a truck hit him at Band Road area of the city and local people rescuing him admitted at SBMCH in critical condition. There he succumbed to his injuries at after 3:00 PM Thursday, hospital sources added.

Sub Inspector Abdul Kuddus of Barisal Kotwali police station, said dead body of the victim sent to SBMCH morgue for autopsy and police succeeded to detain the truck with driver with the help of local people.
