House owner flees leaving body of housemaid in Hizla

A house owner fled leaving dead body of housemaid in village home at Shangkarpasha of Hizla upazila under Barisal district on Wednesday. Sub- Inspector Bazlur Rahman of Hizla police station said police recovering the dead body of Khadiza Begum, 14, from the house of Salahuddin sent to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Khadiza, daughter of Yusuf Ali Majhi of the area was working as a domestic help in the house of Salahuddin Khan at Mirpur-1 of Dhaka. On Tuesday afternoon Salahuddin and his son- in- law Faruk Hossain reached at their village home with the dead body of Khadiza claiming that she committed suicide at the house of Salahuddin in Dhaka.
Scholarship awarding ceremony held

Under the auspices of Bagerhat Zila Parishad an scholarship awarding ceremony-2014 was held in the local Zila Parishad Auditorium with Shaikh Kamruzzaman Tuku, Administrator of Bagerhat Zila Parishad and Khulna Divisional Commander at the time of Liberation War in the chair on Thursday at 11 am in order to financially help and inspire the poor but meritorious students of the district who did well in the SSC and HSC examination in the year 2013. Some 7 lakh 20 thousand cash Taka was distributed among 600 meritorious students @ Tk.1,200.00 each at a time.At first Md. Alim Uddin, Chief Executive of Bagerhat Zila Parishad explained the aims and objection of holding such a function in his address of welcome.
Call to ensure education of disabled

Speakers at a human chain here on Wednesday stressed the need for ensuring inclusive education for the children with special needs for establishing their fundamental rights in the society.We have to change our mental attitude to the persons with disabilities to help them avail an opportunity to enjoy all basic rights like privileged section in the country, they said.They were addressing in a human chain arranged by the Mothers Development Society(MDS) a local NGO with the assistant of Campaign For Popular Education (CAMPE) in front of Narsingdi press club in observance of the Global Action Week (4 to10 May)Speaker addressed on the theme of the week- Education and Disability, Equal right Equal opportunity.
Housewife beaten to death in Bogra

A housewife was killed by her husband over gold ornament at Shalikha Purbapara under Sonatola upazila of Bogra district recently. The deceased was identified as Akhi Begum, 23, wife of Akram Mondal and daughter of Alek Promanik of the same village. Police quoting the case statement said that she was married to Akram Hossain around 6/7 years before and gave-birth two sons. After marriage her greedy husband used to torture her for claiming dowry money, gold ornaments and on Sunday evening they involved in hot talk and at a stage the husband beaten her to death and tried to divert the fact by hanging her with rope with the ceiling of the living room of the house, added the case statement.
