Charlotte lifts curfew after protests

Charlotte authorities lifted a curfew late Sunday that had been set following sometimes violent protests over a fatal police shooting of a black man in the southern US city. In a joint statement, Mayor Jennifer Roberts and the chairman of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, Trevor Fuller, urged the community to continue to “show their unity in a peaceful and legal manner.”

Top Pak Taliban commander killed

Afghan security forces have killed one of the top Pakistani Taliban commanders along with at least 10 other militants in a border area operation, sources said Sunday. Raeas Khan, also known as Azam Khan Tariq, had a 20 million rupee ($190,740) bounty on his head and was the fourth-highest ranking commander in the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

India launches eight satellites

India on Monday successfully launched eight satellites from one rocket into two different orbits, Hindustan Times reported.
The mission was the longest for the polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV C-35) that lifted off from Sriharikota at 9:12am carrying eight satellites.

Extremists kill 8 Nigerian soldiers

Nigeria’s military says eight soldiers were killed and 17 wounded in two attacks by Islamic extremists in northeastern Nigeria. The attacks, announced Monday, bring the official toll to 10 troops killed and 24 wounded this past week in a resurgence of violence
