Two held with yaba in SylhetSylhet Correspondent Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested two youths with yaba tablets and harmaful injections from a residential hotel in Dargah gate area of the city ON Sunday morning. The arrestees were identified as Abul Khayer, 28, son of Tara Miah of Berigaon under Sunamganj Sadar upazila, and Suman Ahmed, 19, son of Abdul Gafur of Belabharhati village under the same upazila in Sunamganj district. RAB in a drive arrested duo at the second floor of Anupam Hotel in Dargah gate area of the city. Police also recovered 217 pieces Yaba tablets and four harmful injections from those arrestees. Two varieties of pumpkin developed by HSTU scientists Dinajpur (South) CorrespondentScientists of Haji Mohammed Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) of Dinajpur developed two new varieties of sweet pumpkin after a three-year research, according to the university officials. The new verities-ÒHajeeÓ and ÒDanesh-were named in honour of Hajee Mohammad Danesh. The new varieties of pumpkin gives good yield and are unique in sweetness and carotene with less fibre. Besides, there is no complaint of insect infiltration.The scientists of Genetics and Plant Breeding Department of HSTU developed the varieties for the first time. Prof Dr. Md. Hasanuzzaman Ratan Chairman of the department started the research in June 2011. Lal Teer Seed Ltd, a seed company of Bangladesh provided financial support and the research became successful in early 2013. The seeds were officially launched at ceremony at HSTU campus on Thursday. The researchers grew 12 to 14 tonnes pumpkins of Hajee verity and 16 to 17 tonnes of pumpkins of Danesh verity per hectare. Each Hajee variety of pumpkin weighs around 3.5 kg to 4 kg while each pumpkin of Danesh variety weighs 6 kg to 8 kg. Mostaque Ahmed, farmer of Ghugudanga village in Sadar upazila of the district who cultivated both the varieties on 10 decimal land, said that he got good yield and there was less pest attack.Md. Rurul Amin, Vice-Chancellor of the University, said that the innovation of Hajee and Danesh, is a landmark achievement of the teachers and students of the university as well for the people of the country and agriculture sector in the country as such innovative varieties would be able the meet nutrition requirement of low earning people.Talking with this correspondent, Professor Dr. Md. Hasanuzzaman, Chairman of Genetics and Plant Breeding Department of the University, said that the new varieties have less fibre, which enhances the taste.
