UP member killed in Kurigram road mishap

One UP member and leader of Motor labourer was killed in a road accident at Joymonirhat bazaar under Bhurungamari upazila in Kurigram district on Monday morning . The deceased was identified as Suruzzaman Suja 42, a member of Joymonirhat union council and son of Freedom Fighter Azizul Haque of village choto Khatamari under Joymonirhat union of Bhurungamari upazila.Police said the accident took place at Joymonirhat while a Rangpur bound track(bearing number-Rangpur ta-11-0236) from Bhurungamari collided head on with the motor cyclist from the opposite direction. The UP member was killed on the spot.The driver however managed to escape leaving the track. Later police seized the track and brought to thana. Officer-in-charge of Bhurungamari police station Zia Latiful Islam admitted the incident and told that the killer track was seized.
BCKF arranges football matches

Borhanuddin Chhatra Kalyan Foundation (BCKF), a social welfare organisation, arranged several friendly football matches on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha at different places of Borhanuddin upazila under Bhola district recently. Founding Chairman of the BCKF and former President of Dhaka University Journalists’ Association M M Jasim was present at all the matches as the Chief Guest. The friendly football matches were held at Munshirhat, Mirzakalu and Rastarmatha on September 15. The football match at Gas Field was held on September 16. Hundreds of people from all walks of life enjoyed the matches. Attractive prizes were also distributed to the winners.
Hilsa-laden trawler seized in Sundarbans

A fishing trawler laden with about 10 mounds hilsa was seized by the Forest Department at Alorkol area under Sharankhola forest range in the Eastern Division of Sundarbans on Saturday. It is learnt from the Sundarban Forest Department that on the day in the morning while the members of a smart team of the forest department were discharging their normal patrol duties in the forest found the trawler in a canal at Alorkol area of the forest in a suspicious movement and as soon as they (members of the smart team) went there fishermen and the staff of the trawler left it and fled away into the deep forest. Then the trawler was seized and taken to Sharankhola forest range office by the smart team. On the same day at noon about 10 mounds hilsa recovered from the trawler were sold in auction by the forest department. Mohammad Hossain, ACF of Sharankhola forest range disclosed, without procuring the permit from the forest office the fishermen and the staff of the trawler caught hilsa from the Bay of Bengal illegally and while it was trying to flee away from the forest it was seized by the smart team.
Central research review , planning workshop held at BARI

A nine day long ‘Central Research Review and Planning Workshop-2016’ of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) was held on Sunday morning at Kazi Badrudduza Auditorium of the institute. In every year, research review and planning workshop arranged by BARI in three steps (Regional, Internal and Central). Regional review and planning workshop organized in the eight regions of Bangladesh (Rangpur, Ishardi (Pabna), Jessore, Barisal, Hathajari (Chittagong), Akbarpur (Moulvibazar), Comilla, Jamalpur and Gazipur). Internal & central research review and planning workshop organized in BARI head quarter, Gazipur. Still now, BARI has developed 471 high yielding varieties (including hybrid) and 452 crop production technologies of more than 200 crops.
Some of these technologies and varieties are disease and stress resistance. Production of wheat, oilseed, pulse, potato, vegetables, spices and fruits have been increased using these technologies. The objective of the workshop is to evaluate the developed technologies and to take new research program according to demand of the country.
Honorable Minister, Ministry of Agriculture, Matia Chowdhury inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest and Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Agriculture Md. Mokbul Hossain, MP & Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Agriculture Md. Abdul Mannan, MP were present as special guest. Additional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Md. Mosharaf Hossain presided over the inaugural session.
