Appearance of Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra observed in Kushtia
KUSHTIA: The 129th Appearance Day of Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra was observed here yesterday. On the occasion, Satsang Mandir Committee of Kushtia arranged a procession in the town and sacred bath in the River Gorai. Few hundred disciples gathered in front of the Satsang Temple in the town for prayer this morning. The procession paraded different roads of the town and ended on the bank of Gorai where the disciples took their sacred bath. According to the temple sources, Anukul Chandra, founder of Satsang, a social movement, came to Kushtia on 30 Vadra in the Bengali year 1325 and took sacred bath with his disciples in the River Gorai, reports BSS.
2-day reunion concludes at Rangpur Zila School
RANGPUR: The two-day reunion programme of Rangpur Zila School (RZS) ended here at the school ground yesterday amid huge enthusiasm and festivity. Hundreds of students of the institution gathered and participated in various programmes during the two-day event organised on the occasion of 184th founding anniversary of the reputed educational institution. Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor formally inaugurated the reunion by releasing balloons at a colourful ceremony on Wednesday noon as the chief guest. Later, a colourful rally, participated by hundreds of former and incumbent students of RZC wearing red-coloured T-shirts, paraded the city streets. Former student of RZC, noted fiction writer and journalist Anisul Haque moderated the post-inaugural discussion session, reports BSS.
Woman killed by ‘husband, in-laws’ in Habiganj
HABIGANJ: An expecting woman was beaten to death allegedly by her husband in association with his house members over a family feud at Sadekpur in Chunarughat upazila on Thursday night. Locals said Russel Mia had an altercation with his wife Tahera Banu, 22, over a family feud on Thursday night. Later he aided by his family members beat up Tahera mercilessly, leaving her dead on the spot. On information, police rushed in and sent the body to hospital morgue for an autopsy on Friday morning, reports UNB.
One electrocuted in Pabna
PABNA: A man was electrocuted at Srikantpur village under Atgharia Upazila of the district on Thursday. The victim was identified as Abu Syeed, 48, son of Abu Nasar of the upazila. Family and Local sources said he was electrocuted when he went to switch on his water pump at his home. He died on the spot, they added, reports BSS.
One killed in Dinajpur road accident
DINAJPUR: A bicycle rider was killed on Dinajpur- Panchagarh Road in Kaharole Upazila of the district yesterday night. The deceased was identified as Mokbul Hossein, 55, hailed from Mohidipur village of the Upazila. Police said the accident occurred when he was returning home riding a bicycle from Kantnagar village last night. A night coach hit him near Vatgaon Bridge on the Road and he died on the spot. A case was filed with Kaharole Thana in this connection. The body of Mokbul Hossein handed over to his family members after autopsy, police added, reports BSS.
Farmers urged to nurture paddy fields to get desired output
Gaibandha: Agri-experts at a function here on Monday urged farmers to nurture their paddy fields properly to get desired output for achieving the country’s food security. In this context, the training on the latest technology conducted by the agri-experts could help educate the farmers in boosting production of paddy in a systematic way, they also commented. They made the comments while addressing the concluding ceremony of a two-day training for the farmers on cultivating the short duration BRRI Dhan-56 and BU Dhan-1 in the hall room of Padumsahar Union Federation office under Shaghata Upazila. RDRS Bangladesh and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University jointly organized the training in cooperation with Krishi Gobeshana Foundation (KGF) under the project of Crops Intensification in Northern Region of Bangladesh.
Deputy director of DAE AKM Ruhul Amin addressed the function as the chief guest and Additional Deputy Director Matiur Rahman was present as the special guest. Programme manager of RDRS Bangladesh Porsia Rahman presided over the ceremony.
The function was addressed, among others, by Upazila Agriculture Officer AKM. Mobinuzzaman, research associate of KGF M. Mohidul Islam, sub assistant agriculture officer M. Khalilur Rahman, research assistant Akbor Hossain and farmer Shakhawat Hossain.
AKM Ruhul Amin said the BU Dhan-1 and BRRI Dhan-56 varieties do not wither in severe droughts and can be harvested within 90 to 110 days of its plantation and its taste and flavor is better and its market price is comparatively higher than many other varieties.
After harvesting of the varieties, the farmers can also cultivate mustard, potato, lentil, gram and other early Robi crops on their lands, the expert also said.
A total of 65 farmers took part in the training in two batches.
