Benapole check-post on high alert against Zika virus
BENAPOLE: Immigration Police is on special alert at Benapole check-post to prevent anticipated spread of Zika virus through the border. Immigration police at Benapole said a five-member medical team has been examining every foreigner entering Bangladesh through the check-post. They are conducting initial test with thermal scanner provided by the Health Services Directorate.
They have also increased surveillance in the area. Officer-in-charge of Benapole Immigration Police Iqbal Hossain said the medical team members have been working since Sunday afternoon following a directive from the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, reports UNB.
One terrorist held with arms in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday arrested an alleged terrorist with a country made one shooter gun and two round of cartridge from Bhanga upazila of the district in Faridpur. Acting on a tip off, a RAB team led by CC Major Abdullah Al Hassan carried out a raid and arrested M. Kamruzzaman Shahin, 44, son of SM Shahiduzzan hailing from Fazilpur village under Bhanga upazila. They also recovered a one shooter gun with two round of cartridge from his possession. During primary interrogation Shahin admitted that he has been carrying out terrorist activities and extortion for a long time. The RAB team handed him over to Bhanga police for necessary legal action, reports BSS.
Students block Dhk-Mymensingh Highway in Gazipur

Students blocked Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in College Gate area of Tongi on Monday morning protesting the killing of a school girl in road accident. Rafa Tajrin, a class VII student of Tongi Sofiuddin Sarker Academy was killed as a bus hit her on the highway on Sunday afternoon while she was returning from school. Angered by the accident, the students of the academy took position on the highway and blocked the highway which halted vehicular movement for about forty-five minutes.
One held with 1,410 Yaba tablets in C’nawabganj

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested an alleged drug trader along with 1,410 pieces of yaba tablets from Bakher Ali area in Sadar upazila on Sunday evening. The arrestee was identified as Aminul Islam, son of Abdul Hye, a resident of the area. On secret information, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area 7.15pm and arrested Aminul along with the yaba, said in a press release of Rab-5.
Valuables looted from house in Sylhet city

Miscreants looted valuables from a house of former councilor of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) in Tilagarh area of city on Sunday evening. Shahjalal Munshi, officer-in-charge of Shahporan Police Station, said a gang of 15-20 miscreants equipped with pistols and sharp weapons stormed into the house of former city councilor Naznin Akhter Kona in the area around 7.30pm. The miscreants vandalised furniture of the house. They looted TK 4 lakh and 18 tolas gold ornaments from the house, and later fled the scene.
