Looted money recovered from Gopalganj

Barisal Police on Saturday recovered Tk. 24, 66, 400, one pistol, 2 round ammunitions and 12 mobile sets from the house of an inter-district snatcher gang leader at Chandra Bil of Kashiani area under Gopalganj district following the confession of an arrested gang member. AKM Ehsan Ullah, Barisal district police superintendent, disclosed these facts. Sudipta Sarkar, additional police superintendent (Sadar), who led the operation, said a four-member snatcher gang riding two motorcycles snatched Tk 12 lakhs from a mobile banking bkash agent at Bamrail under Ujirpur upazila of Barisal on April 27, 2014 evening. The men of bkash agent chased the snatcher gang and reaching at Poisarhut called help from local people to nab the miscreants. Local people creating road blocks when tried to nab the snatcher gang, the miscreants opened fire on people. Two locals Dr. Choitanya Koch and businessman Mizanur Rahman received bullet injuries by the snatchers. However local people succeeded to nab one snatcher Shah Alam Mandal, 35, son of Abdul Halim Mandal from Syedpur under Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district, and other three managed to flee at that time. After giving mass beating the detained snatcher was rescued from lynching and handed over to police by Agoiljhara upazila chairman Golam Mortuza Khan at about 8:00 PM on that night.

Two killed, 10 injured in Shibganj

Two persons were killed and 10 others were injured in two separate incidents in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Friday night and at early hours on Saturday. The victims were identified as Salim, 25, son of Kamal Uddin of Dakhin Shahbajpur village under Birampur upazila in Dinajpur district and Ekbar Ali, 65, son of late Yasin Ali of Monakasha under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj distric Police said, Salim along with three others was going towards Kansat from Rohanpur by a motor cycle. As the motor cycle reached Pushkuni area on the Kansat-Chowdala road at around 10 pm, they came under attack by a gang of robbers who blocked the road by hanging a rope. Being obstructed by the rope, they fell on the road and were injured seriously. A patrol team of police suddenly reached there and rescued them and took them to Shibganj upazila Health Complex. Salim succumbed to injuries there. Police recovered the dead body and sent it to Chapainawabganj sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.

Jamaat leader held in Nachole

Former secretary of Nachole municipality unit and a Rokon of Jamaat was arrested at early hours on Saturday.The arrested Jamaat leader was identified as Khalilur Rahman, 50, son of late Mokbul Hossain of Shibpur Shiala village under Nachole municipality in Chapainawabganj district. OC of Nachole thana Sanaul Hoque said, police raided his house at around 2 am and held him in fear of sabotage. He was produced before the court and the court sent him to jail custody on Saturday morning, he added.

One killed in Sylhet road accident

A teenage boy was killed in a road accident in Otirbari area of the Sylhet district on Wednesday.The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan, 18, son of Monfor Ali of Lokshimipur village.Officer-in-charge of Dakshin Surma Police Station, said a speeding Bus rammed on the Sylhet-Jognnathpur road in the area at about 6pm, leaving Abdul Mannan dead on the spot.Police seized the Bus but the driver managed to flee.
