Teenage boy drowns in Kushtia river
KUSHTIA: A teenage boy drowned in the Mathabhanga River in Daulatpur upazila of the district on Friday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Nasim Arafat,18, son of Baki Billah, a resident of Mirzapur village in Bheramara upazila. Locals said Nasim went to the Mathabhanga’s bank to take a bath in the afternoon and all of a sudden he went missing moments after diving into in the river. After a frantic search, locals found his body on the river’s bank adjacent to Pragpur Bazar, reports UNB.
Drug addict youth held

Tired of repeated failures in his efforts to bring his drug addict son back to normal life, a man of Shangkorchandrapur village in Sadar upazila lastly handed over the young son to police, who later ended up in jail. Chuadanga assistant commissioner (Land) Maruful Alam said Gafir Mondal handed over his drug addict son Shariful Islam,26, to Sadar police station on Friday evening as his wildness for drug reached an unbearable stage. Later, Shariful was produced before a mobile court led by Maruful Alam, also an executive magistrate, who sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment.
College Principal assaulted in Bagerhat

At last a case was registered with Rampal PS on Wednesday at night against a number persons including Shaikh Abu Sayeed, Upazila Chairman of Rampal on the charge of assaulting Md. Sadek Hossain, Principal of Gilatala Abul Kalam Degree College under Rampal Upasila in Bagerha district and taking his signature on the blank papers forcibly in the plea of not inviting them to attend to a function held in the college on August 15. The case was registered by the victim himself. Principal Md. Sadek Hossain demanded in a press conference held in Bagerhat Press Club on Thursday at noon, the arrest and exemplary punishment of the accused persons immediately. The principal complained in the press conference, after the brutal assaulting on me the accused persons are now hatching conspiracy in order to harass me in more than one ways. It is mentioned in the press conference and in the case that a discussion meeting cum a Milad Mahfil was arranged in the college by the college authority in observance of the National Mourning Day and 41st Martyrdom of the Father of the Ntion Bangabandhu Shaikh Mujibor Rahman.
Bottle removed from patient’s stomach

A bottle has been removed from stomach of a patient by surgery at a clinic in the city. Dr. Jahangir Hossain Selim, surgeon of Health Care Clinic in the city, said patient Md Jalal Hossain, 40, som of Abdul Monaj from Farashganj under Lalmohon upazila of Bhola district, came at the clinic on August 17 night with severe stomach pain. The patient and his attendants some times claimed that a ‘Jin( a supernatural sprit or demon) entered the bottle in to the stomach, some times said after falling from a bamboo-bridge to canal, the bottle entered inside through his rectum. However the doctors of the clinic after X-ray confirmed the existence of the bottle in the stomach of the patient and suggested to go under surgery at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital for removing that. However the patient denying going to the public hospital requested the doctors to do surgery at that clinic.
