Schoolboy killed in Sylhet road crash

A schoolboy was crushed under the wheels of a rashly-driven truck at Mokampunji on the Sylhet-Tamabil Highway on Tuesday afternoon.The deceased was identified as Lobo Patro, 10, son of Bodoi Patro, a resident of Mokampunji village in Jaintiapur upazila. Lobo was a class III student of Mokampunji Govt. Primary School.Officer-in-charge of Jaintiapur Police Station Shafiul Kabir said Lobo was crossing Sylhet -Tamabil Highway for going to school. Incensed by the death, locals put up barricade on the highway for an hour, triggering a long tailback., At one stage, the Jaflong-bound speeding truck rammed him around 4:30pm, leaving him dead on the spot.
Five Shibir activists held in Sylhet
Police arrested five activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir in possession of jihadi books and training manuals raiding a mess house in South Surma upazila of Sylhet on late Tuesday.The arrestees were identified as Tanjil Hossain Sakir,19, Abdul Malik,22, Jayed Ahmad,24, Joynal Abedin,17 and Matiur Rahman,20.Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan of Police (SMP) Jidan Al Musa said tipped off, a team of police conducted a raid on the mess house at Kamalbazar and arrested the five when they were staying there at about 8:00pm.The law enforcers also recovered huge jihadi books and training manuals from the spot, according to a news agency.
Discussion on food safety held at Kishoreganj

Kishoreganj District Administration and Food Safety Authority Jointly arranged a discussion on food Safety: Hygienic, Protect social movement held at Kishoreganj collectorate Conference room on Wednesday.Deputy Commissioner Md. It was addressed among others by Magistrate Ummea Fetema, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, TIB, Kishoreganj unit President Saiful Haque Mollah Dolu, Women chamber President Fetama-toze-Johura, Bara Bazar Merchant Association General Secretary Osman Gani, Secretary Inspector Madina Akhter and Motiur Rahman Moti. Later, Additional District Magistrate, CAB President, Women Chamber President, Press Club Senior Vice-President, were also visited the some Chinese Restaurant, Sweet House, and Bakary and motivation the food-Safety Act-2013.
Rights activists, indigenous leaders demand punishment of attackers

Speakers including environmentalists and indigenous leaders at a meeting on Friday demanded proper investigation and punishment of those who tortured Indigenous people and destroy green in Lakhai Datta Bosti area of Srimangal Upazila of Moulvibazar. Bikrom Tanti, a resident of the Lakhai Datta Bosti village said, “We live an insecured life. The octogenarian breaks down in tears and says he wishes he could die to end the suffering.” The told this correspondent when visited this area on Friday around hundreds indigenous people live in the village. He said, we are day laborers in this area. What our fault is as villagers that are all time tea garden owner harassment us. They torture and threat us and told get out from the land. If we protest they filed different type of cases against us. Tea garden owner filed case against me of Bangladesh Adibashi Forum said, a plan is on to evict the minorities land. If eviction continues then one day Indigenous people will destroy, he added.
