Student electrocuted in Jhenidah

A student of class ten was electrocuted during repairing the electric line of his house at Baniakandor village in Jhenidah sadar upazila on Wednesday night. The deceased was Tusar Hossain, 16 son of Shaharul Islam of Baniakandor village of the upazila. He was a student of class ten of Barbari secondary school of the upazila. Officer in charge (OC) Shahabuddin Azad of Jhenidah police station said, on Wednesday night at around 8:00 pm Tusar got shock while he was repairing the electric line of his house. Instantly, he was rushed to Jhenidah sadar hospital where he succumbed to injures at around 9:00 pm of the night. An unnatural death case was filed with local police station in this connection, the OC added.
Body recovered in Chapainawabganj

Police recovered a housewife’s dead body from Dewanjaigir village under Shibganj municipality in Chapainawabganj district on Friday night. She was identified as Sumi Aktar, 22, wife of Abdur Rahim of the aforesaid area. Officer in charge ( OC) of Shibganj thana Ashiqur Rahman said, Sumi’s husband Abdur Rahim went out of home in the morning on Friday locking his room and did not return. Sumi was not also found in the house. As the day passed, the inmates of the house entered the room breaking the lock and found the dead body of Sumi lying on the floor. Being informed, police of Shibganj thana rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body at around 9 pm and sent it to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The OC added that Sumi was killed by suffocating and her husband remains absconding. Up to filing this report, no case was filed with the police station and none was arrested in this connection.
Arms, ammo, phensidyl recovered, one held
Members of BGB and RAB recovered arms, ammunition and phensidyl and arrested one person in two separate drives on Friday night and at early hours on Saturday. BGB said, acting on a tip off, a patrol team of BGB of Monakasha Border Out Post (BOP) raided a mango orchard at Barorashia under Durlavpur union of Shibganj upazila of the district at around 3 am today. Sensing the presence of BGB members, a smuggler fled away leaving a bag. After searching the bag BGB seized one pistol, two magazines, six rounds of bullet and 106 bottles of phensidyl. The seized arms, ammunition and bottles of phensidyl were deposited with Shibganj thana, the sources added. In another drive last night, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 held one person with 60 bottles of phensidyl from Shibtala in Chapainawabganj town at around 8 pm.
Addicted husband kills wife in M’bazar

An addicted husband strangled his wife and set fire to his house at Poddocherra Tea Garden under Kamalganj Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning allegedly for not giving money to take wine. It is learnt that Sopna Munda, 25, was a tea garden worker of Poddocherra Tea Garden. She was mother of two sons. Police recovered her body from her home and sent it to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Locals captured husband Sopon Mounda, 30 and handed him over to Kamalganj police station. Bodrul Islam, Officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kamalganj Police Station said Sopon had admitted before police that he had killed Sopna. He said, Sopon said they got married five years ago. He had been asking money for taking wine.
1,520-kg jatka seized in Barisal
BARISAL: The officials of Fisheries Department, in a drive, seized 1,520 kilograms of jatka (small hilsha fish) from Rupatali area in the city here last night. Being informed, a team of the department intercepted a Dhaka bound truck in the area and seized the jatka, said district fisheries officer Bimal Chandra Das. The owners of the hilsa fry, however, managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the team. Later, the jatkas were donated to local madrasa and orphanage houses, reports BSS.
Jamaat Ameer held in Pabna
Pabna” Police arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from College Road in Ishwardi municipality on Saturday night. The arrestee was identified as Golam Azam, 43, ameer of Ishwardi municipality unit of Jamaat. Biman Kumar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ishwardi Police Station, said on secret information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area at about 8:30 pm and arrested Azam. Azam was wanted in more than six cases, he added. The cases was filed against him for carrying out sabotage and vandalising vehicles, reports UNB.
