A newly married couple allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves at Charhati under Moglabazar police station in the city on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Sujan Mia, 19, son of Mosharraf Hossain of Charhati, and his wife Kajal Akter, 18.
Moglabazar police rushed to the victims’ house and found the bodies hanging from the ceiling of separate rooms in Sujon’s house in the morning.
Additional Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Apurba Saha said, Sujon and Kazal were cousins and got married around 15 days ago against the will of their families. But Sujon’s family refused to accept them when they returned home after marriage, he added.
Apurba Saha also said earlier the couple tried to commit suicide taking sedatives or poison on Saturday. But, later, they became well after giving treatment at a hospital and went back home.
