A newly-married couple was killed in sleep when a fire broke out at a house in Pirojpur’s Mathbaria upazila early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Saiful, 25, and his wife Moni Begum, 20, residents of Pashchim College Road area. They got married only three months ago.
On information, fire-fighting units rushed to the scene and doused the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts.
Two auto-rickshaws were also burnt in the fire.
Saiful and Moni Akter, both residents of Ward 6 under Mathbaria municipality, were asleep when the fire gutted their house, said Mathbaria police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Masuduzzaman.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit at the house around 4:30am, said Mathbaria Fire Service and Civil Defence station officer Md Sumon Mia.
