Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, MP inaugurated the newly -built car shed of Chittagong Port yesterday morning for accommodating 900 imported cars within the port’s restricted areas at a cost of Taka 24 crore aimed at stopping pilferage of accessories of the imported cars.
Speaking at the inaugural function Shajahan Khan said that the newly constructed car shed will provide safety of the valuable cars and the capacity of the port will be enhanced as well.
He said the present places where these imported cars are stored may be used as a container and cargo handling space after shifting of cars to the new shed.
Shajahan also informed that this constructed car shed may be turned into a multistoried shed if necessary in future.
Chairman of CPA Rear Admiral M Iqbal Khaled presided over the function while city Mayor A Z M Nasir Uddin, M A Latif MP, Didarul Alam, MP and Shipping Secretary Ashoke Madop Roy, among others, attended the inaugural function.
Port sources said, following the construction of the car shed, the car lifters won’t get any chance to take away the original parts of these cars replacing the old one.
