She was supposed to be there in her mother’s lap either at home or hospital, but the ill-fated one-day old baby girl was found in a city dustbin on Saturday.
Police rescued the baby from the dustbin at Shah Ali Beribadh in the city’s Mirpur area in the afternoon.
Contacted, Sub-Inspector (SI) Bachchu Miah, also in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Police Camp, said locals spotted
he newborn screaming in the bin and informed Shah Ali Police Station.
Later, SI Zahir Raihan of the police station rushed in and rescued the infant, and got her admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 5:40pm. She is now undergoing treatment at the DMCH’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, said Zahir. The baby is believed to have been dumped into the bin a few hours after she was born for reasons unknown.
