New Zealand enjoyed a brilliant nine-wicket victory against touring Bangladesh in the 2nd Test which ended on day four at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Monday.
With this victory, the Blackcaps handed a 2-0 clean sweep to the Tigers in the two-match series. New Zealand outplayed Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the 1st Test at Basin Reserve.
After washing out of the 3rd day’s play, New Zealand resumed the 1st innings on day four on Monday with their previous collection of 260/7 in 71 overs and finished at 354 for all in 92.4 overs.
Henry Nicholls started the day with 77 runs and out for 98 while Tim Southee added 13 more runs to score 17 runs in the innings. Neil Wagner (26) was another double figure scorer in the innings on the 4th day.
Shakib Al Hasan captured four wickets for 50 runs in the innings while Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Kamrul Islam Rabbi took two wickets each for 59 and 78 runs respectively.
Bangladesh (289 in the 1st innings) opened the 2nd innings from 65 runs behind and faced quick collapse scoring 173/10 in 52.5 overs to get a 108-run lead.
Mahmudullah Riyad top-scored 38 while Soumya Sarkar (36), Taskin Ahmed (33), Kamrul Islam Rabbi (25 not out) and Nazmul Hossain Shanto (12) were the double figure scorers for the side.
Neil Wagner, Tim Southee and Trent Boult distorted Bangladesh’s batting line capturing three wickets each for 44, 48 and 52 runs respectively.
Chasing a target of 109 runs, New Zealand comfortably sealed the win scoring 111 for 1 in 18.4 overs in the 2nd innings where Colin de Grandhomme fired two consecutive over-boundaries in the last two balls of the match off Nazmul Hossain Shanto.
Tom Latham scored unbeaten 41 runs while Colin de Grandhomme added another unbeaten figure of 33.
Kamrul Islam Rabbi who conceded 21 runs to take the only wicket, bowled out opener Jeet Raval(33) at 56/1 in 12.3 overs.
New Zealand pace bowler Tim Southee who captured eight wickets for 142 runs in the two innings was adjudged man of the match.
