Xinhua, Wellington :
New Zealand’s wholesale trade sales fell in the quarter ending December 2015, the government statistics agency said Monday. Total sales fell 0.2 percent from the September 2015 quarter, when they rose 3 percent from the previous quarter, according to Statistics New Zealand. “This quarter’s fall in total wholesaling was led by the basic material and grocery industries,” business indicators senior manager Neil Kelly said in a statement.
“Basic material wholesaling includes businesses that trade in industries such as metal, mineral, and agriculture product wholesaling, while grocery wholesaling also includes liquor, tobacco, and fruit exporters.”
The trend for wholesale trade sales had steadily been increasing, and it remained at a high level.
The actual value of wholesale trade sales was 25 billion NZ dollars (17 billion U.S. dollars) in the December quarter, up 2.4 percent from the December 2014 quarter.
