New Zealand took the upper hand in the second Test as they could manage a mammoth total in the first innings and declared making 432 for the loss of six wickets against Bangladesh on the fourth day at Wellington in New Zealand on Monday.
Bangladesh were at the stumps at 80 for the loss of three wickets.
Earlier, Bangladesh scored 211 in the first innings on the third day (Sunday).
Bangladesh trailed by 141 runs remaining with seven wickets.
New Zealand resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 32 for the loss of two wickets.
Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 19 and 10 runs respectively.
Taylor and Williamson contributed 172 runs for the third wicket partnership before Williamson was caught & bowled by Taijul Islam when the hosts’ total was 180 for the loss of three wickets.
After Williamson’s dismissal, Taylor and Henry Nicholls added together 216 run in the fourth wicket stand before Nicholls was bowled by Taijul Islam when the home side’s score was 396 for the loss of four wickets.
Ross Taylor hit a terrific 200. His 212-ball innings was studded with 19 fours and four sixes. He was caught by wicketkeeper Liton Das off Mustafizur Rahman when New Zealand’s total was 421 for the loss of five wickets.
Nicholls notched up a splendid 107. His 129-ball knock was laced with nine fours.
Williamson made 74 from 105 balls including 11 fours and a sixer.
Colin de Grandhomme remained unbeaten with 23.
BJ Watling (8) was caught at the slip by Soumya Sarkar off Abu Jayed when the Kiwis score was 432 for the loss of six wickets.
After Watling’s dismissal, New Zealand declared their innings.
Taijul Islam was his most successful bowler. He bagged a couple of wickets at the cost of 99 runs.
Mustafizur Rahman got one wicket conceding 74 runs.
Later, Bangladesh faced an early debacle as they lost two wickets for 20 runs.
Opener Tamim Iqbal (4) was clean bowled out by Trent Boult when Bangladesh’s score was four.
One-down Mominul Haque ( 10) was caught at the third slip by Tim Southee off Boult when the tourists’ score was 20.
Opener Shadman Islam and Mohammad Mithun put on together 35 runs for the third wicket partnership before Shadman was caught behind by BJ Watling off Matt Henry when Bangladesh’s score was 55 for the loss of three wickets.
Shadman scored 29 from 44 balls featuring four fours.
Mohammad Mithun and Soumya Sarkar were on 25 and 12 respectively before the bails were drawn for the fourth day.
Boult bagged a pair of wickets instead of 34 runs while Matt Henry took one wicket for 17 runs.
