Raval, Latham hit tons: New Zealand take upper hand

New Zealand took the upper hand in the first Test making a mammoth total of 451 for the loss of four wickets in the first innings against Bangladesh on the second day at Hamilton in New Zealand on Friday.
Earlier, Bangladesh scored 234 in the first innings on the first day (Thursday).
New Zealand led the first innings by 217 runs in the first innings against their counterpart.
New Zealand resumed their first innings with the overnight score of 86 for the loss of none. Jeet Raval and Tom Latham resumed their first innings with the overnight score of 51 and 35 runs respectively.
Raval and Latham contributed more 168 runs together in the opening stand on the second day.
Raval notched up a splendid 132. His 220-ball innings was laced with 19 fours and a sixer. It was Raval’s maiden Test century. Raval was caught at the mid-wicket by Khaled Ahmed off Mahmudullah Riyad when the Kiwis’ total was 254.
Then Latham and Kane Williamson added 79 runs for the second wicket partnership before Latham was caught at the slip by Mohammad Mithun off Soumya Sarkar when the hosts’ score was 333 for the loss of two wickets.
Latham knocked a sedate 161. His 248-ball innings was decorated with 17 fours and three sixes. It was Latham’s ninth Test century.
After dismissal of Latham, Ross Taylor came at the crease but he (4) was trapped leg before wicket by Soumya Sarkar when the Kiwis’ total was 349 for the loss of three wickets.
After Taylor’s departure, Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls added together 100 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Nicholls was bowled out by Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the home side’s score was 449 for the loss of four wickets.
Williamson remained unbeaten with 93. He hit nine fours in his 132-ball innings. Kane fulfilled his 30th Test half-century using 66 balls with four fours.
Nicholls made 53 from 81 balls featuring seven fours. It was his ninth Test half-century. Neil Wagner was on one before the bails were drawn for the second day.
Soumya Sarkar bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 57 runs.
Mahmudullah and Miraz took one wicket each for three and 149 runs respectively.
