New Zealand clinched the ODI series 2-0 beating Bangladesh by five wickets in the second ODI at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, New Zealand on Tuesday.
Put into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a fighting total of 271 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.
In return, New Zealand overhauled the winning target making 275 for the loss of five wickets when they had just 10 balls to spare.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as opener Liton Das (0) caught at the square leg by Will Young off Matt Henry when Bangladesh’s score was just four.
Then Tamim Itqbal and Soumya Sarkar repaired the damage contributing together 81 runs for the second wicket partnership before Soumya was stumped out by Tom Latham off Mitchell Santner when Bangladesh’s total was 85 for the loss of two wickets.
After Soumya’s dismissal, Tamim and Mushfiqur Rahim mended the innings adding together 48 runs in the third wicket stand before Tamim was run out by James Neesham when the tourists’ total was 133 for the loss of three wickets.
Tamim played a captain’s knock of 78. His 108-ball innings was laced with 11 fours. It was Tamim’s 50th ODI half century.
After Tamim’s departure, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun put on together 51 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the mid on by Henry Nicholls off Mitchell Santner when the visitors’ score was 184 for the loss of four wickets.
After Mushfiqur’s dismissal, Mohammad Mithun and Mahmudullah Riyad put up together 64 runs in the fifth wicket stand before Mahmudullah (16) was caught by Martin Guptill off Kyle Jamieson when Bangladesh’s total was 247 for the loss of five wickets.
Mithun remained unbeaten with 73. He hit six fours and two sixes in his 57-ball knock. It was Mithun’s sixth ODI half century.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Soumya Sarkar added 34 and 32 runs respectively to the Bangladesh total.
Santner bagged two wickets at the cost of 51 runs, while Jamieson, Henry and Trent Boult took one wicket apiece.
Bangladesh missed a lot of catches and showed miss fielding, which Bangladesh paid heavily.
Tom Latham and Devon Conway played the key role for New Zealand’s victory.
Tom Latham remained unbeaten with 110. He struck 10 fours in his 108-ball innings. It was Latham’s fifth ODI century. Latham was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Conway hit ha superb 72. He cracked seven fours in his 93-ball knock before he was run out by ha direct throw of Tamim Iqbal.
Mahedi Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman captured two wickets each for 42 and 62 runs respectively.
