A new trust fund titled ‘Rabeya Khatun Memorial and Hasna Begum Stipend Trust Fund’ has been set up at Dhaka University. Former Professor of the Department of Philosophy of Dhaka University and former ‘Rokeya Chair’ of UGC Dr Hasna Begum handed over a cheque for Tk 10 lakh to DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md. Kamal Uddin on Monday at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office to set up this trust fund.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art Prof Nisar Hossain, Chairman of the Department of Sculpture AAM Kaoser Hassan, daughters of donor Shama R Alam, Lala Rukh Selim, daughter-in-law Khaleda Begum and Acting Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman were present on the occasion.
Out of the income of this donation, every year two female but blind students of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) or the Department of Law of DU will be awarded ‘Rabeya Khatun Memorial and Hasna Begum Trust Fund’ Stipend.
Besides, two more financially challenged female students from the Department of Clinical Psychology and the Department of Sculpture of DU will be given stipend from this trust fund.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the donor for her donation. He recalled the outstanding contribution of Prof Dr Hasna Begum to develop education and research in the country.
He called upon the students to make themselves as worthy citizen by following the ideals of Prof Hasna Begum.
It may be mentioned that Prof. Hasna Begum is a renowned educationist of the country. Late Rabeya Khatun, mother of Prof Hasna Begum was also a patron of learning.
