New Trust Fund at DU

A new Trust Fund titled ‘Prof Dr Md Dilawar Husain Al-Quran Research Trust Fund’ has been set up at Dhaka University. Prof Dr Md Dilawar Husain handed over a cheque for Taka 5 (five) lakh to DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin on Sunday at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office to set up the trust fund.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Chairman of the Department of Islamic Studies Prof Muhammad Abdur Rashid, Assistant Prof Md. Mahmudur Rahman and Acting Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman were present on this occasion.
Out of the income of this donation, every year one PhD / M Phil researcher of DU who will conduct research on the Holy Quran will be awarded ‘Prof Dr Md Dilawar Husain Al-Quran Research Trust Fund’ scholarship.
It may be mentioned that Dr Md Dilawar Husain was born in Paikkandi village of Gopalgonj District on 29 January 1937. He obtained his MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College in 1960. He joined the then West Pakistan Health Service after obtaining Medical Degree. He also served the Liverpool University of UK as a Visiting Professor. He has established many schools, colleges, mosques, madrashas, clinics and hospitals in the country. He is one of the founders of Bangabandhu College at Mirpur. He is a widely known social worker, philanthropist and writer. He is the grandfather of Mahmudur Rahman, an Assistant Professor of the Department of Islamic History and Culture of Dhaka University.
