New President, Secy in SCBA

Ruling Awami League backed Sammilita Ainjibi Samannay Parisad candidate AM Amin Uddin has been elected President while BNP backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi panel candidate Barrister Ruhul Quddus Secretary in the
Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for the year 2020-2021.  
The 14 posts, including the major posts, are sharply divided between the main two panels, popularly known as pro-AL “White Penal” and pro-BNP “Blue penal”. The white panel secured six posts. They are President, one Vice-President, two Assistant Secretaries and two Executive Members.
On the other hand, the blue panel captured eight posts — Secretary, one Vice-President, Treasurer and five Executive Members. Incumbent candidate Advocate AM Amin Uddin was re-elected as President of the organization for the second consecutive time.
White panel candidate Advocate AM Amin Uddin polled 3,370 votes in the President post, while his nearest contestant Advocate Zainul Abedin of Blue panel got 2,457 votes.
In the Secretary post, Blue Panel candidate Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal bagged 3,076 votes, while his nearest contestant Advocate Shah Monjurul Hoque of White Panel got 2,811 votes.
Advocate Md Moniruzzaman of White Panel (2,939) and Advocate Md Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan of Blue panel (2,904) elected Vice-Presidents and Barrister Raghib Rouf Chowdhury of Blue Panel (3,329) won as Treasurer.
Advocate Mohammad Imtiaz Farooq (3,205) and Advocate Bakir Uddin Bhuiyan (3,021) both from White panel elected as Assistant Secretaries.
Barrister Mar-E-um Khandaker (3,842), Advocate Amirul Islam Khokan (3,206), Advocate Mohaddes-ul Islam Tutul (3,121), Advocate Mohammad Mohsin Kabir (3,083) and Advocate Mohammad Shaif Uddin Raton (3,039) of Blue panel and Advocate Md Humayun Kabir (3,259) and Advocate Mohammad Moshiur Rahman (3,104) of White panel won the seven Executive Member posts of the new committee.
Convener of SCBA election conducting committee Advocate AF Hassan Ariff announced the results on Friday morning.
The two-day election to the Supreme Court Bar Association ended at 5.00 pm on Thursday in a peaceful and festive atmosphere. A total 5,940 lawyers out of 7,781 lawyers exercised their franchise this year, election conducting committee sources said.
