Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday expected giving a new pay scale for government employees in the next fiscal year.
Replying to a question from treasury bench member Selim Uddin (Sylhet-5) during PM’s question-answer session, Sheikh Hasina said the government expects to get the report of the pay commission headed by former Bangladesh Bank governor Dr M Farashuddin within the next six months.
“The government would be able to announce the new pay scale next year after necessary scrutiny of the recommendations,” she said.
The Prime Minister said the commission would prepare its recommendations considering the living cost of a six-member family including parents.
She said the commission was supposed to submit its recommendations within six months. But, it delayed to start the work due to political unrest and destructive agitation of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir, she said.
The Prime Minister said the government as an interim measure has introduced 20 percent dearness allowance for civil servants from July 1, 2013.
