Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Tuesday assured that the new pay scale for the government officials would come into effect from next July.
The Minister said it at a dividend distribution programme of Sadharan Bima Corporation in the Secretariat. SBC Chairman Shamsul Alam and Managing Director Rezaul Karim handed over a cheque for Tk 20 crore to the Finance Minister.
“We will get a report on the new pay structure in December. But, it will take six months more to make it effective,” Muhith said.
Replying to a question, he said, “Work on the new
pay scale will begin as soon as we get the report.”
He said, in case of plain or simple report, there will be no delay in implementing it. But in case of demanding some reforms, it will take some more time. “As such, it is not possible to say now whether it will be feasible to implement the new pay structure from the current fiscal year.”
On November 24 last year, the government formed the 17-member Pay and Services Commission, headed by former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Farashuddin, to assess some 1.3 million public servants’ salaries and other benefits.
