Weekend Plus Desk :
Mattresses are officially having a moment. Thanks to a crop of seemingly infinite number of startup brands (out to compete with the stalwart industry brands), it feels like everyone’s peddling the promise of better sleep these days. And, as it turns out, Sleep Number’s latest invention might offer even more than that.
The ‘It’ Bed, which will be available in summer 2016, promises to not only give you a comfortable place to rest your head, but the insights to make your mornings better, too.
According to Engadget, the ‘It’ bed comes with built-in sensors that connect to Sleep Number’s Sleep IQ app, so your mattress can offer suggestions to help you achieve a better night’s rest.
Based on your breathing and heart rate, the ‘It’ bed will indicate whether you should be hitting the hay earlier, or even eating dinner at a different time.
Even more impressively, if you know you have an important appointment or meeting in the morning, your bed will actually set a bed time for you to ensure you’re up and at ‘em on time. We’re starting to think this thing might be better than a roommate.
According to the Sleep Number site, the ‘It’ bed will come in six sizes, with prices starting around $1,000, making it a more affordable option compared to the last mattress that claimed to change your life. n
