Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has arrested two persons in connection with a clash between the students and the businessmen in New Market area of the capital.
The arrested two were identified as Kauser and Babu, employees of Newmarket Capital Fast Food Store. They were arrested from the Hazaribagh area of the capital on Monday night (May 9).
DB Chief and Additional Commissioner of Police AKM Hafeez Akhter confirmed the matter to the media on Tuesday afternoon (May 10).
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DB) of Ramna Division HM Azimul Haque said that they had been arrested in the case filed with Newmarket Police Station for attacking the police during the clashes.
Earlier, two persons were killed and more than two hundred others, including members of the media and law enforcement forces, were injured in the 18-hour-long clash that began on the night of April 18. Several vehicles, including an ambulance, were vandalized and several motorcycles were set on fire. A total of five cases, including two murder cases, were filed with the Newmarket Police Station.
On the afternoon of April 18, the employees of two fast food outlets, Capital and Welcome, got into an argument over the setting up of iftar table. Shojeeb and Bappi, the employees of the shop, asked few outsiders to settle the issue.
At around 11:30 pm, 10/15 miscreants reached there and beat the employees of Capital Fast Food Store. Later, a troublemaker group spread rumors about the fight and tried to divert the incident. The incident turned into extreme clashes after it was uploaded on social media platforms.
