Awami League Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud on Monday said the new leadership of Awami League will work accordingly in line with bringing the party to power again in the next polls.
“The national polls will be held in 2019. And those who will come to leadership in the ensuing national council of Awami League will work accordingly to bring the party to power again,” he said.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said this at a press conference emerging from a meeting of Awami League’s (AL) national council preparatory committee’s publicity and publication sub-committee at the political office of AL president Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi in the city. The 20th AL national council will be held in the capital on October 22 and 23.
AL health affairs secretary Dr Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan Dublew, deputy publicity secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Advocate Sanjida Khanam, MP, Dhaka South City AL publicity secretary Akhter Hossain, publicity and publication sub-committee members Marufa Akhter Poppy, Shah Mostafa Alamgir and Ashraf Siddiqui Bitu were present, among others.
Dr Hasan Mahmud disclosed to the reporters that BNP-Jamaat’s involvement, patronisation and support in the militant activities would be highlighted in the digital and print publication on the occasion of Awami League national council.
He said although many countries including the United States applauded the government in tackling militancy, BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir raised questions whether those killed and arrested were militants or not.
In reply to BNP’s accusation that their right to hold public rallies and gatherings has been curtailed, Hasan Mahmud said, “They brought such an accusation after failing to carry out subversive acts and fire-terrorism.
Permission of police is mandatory also for Awami League to hold public rallies and gatherings. BNP should not feel shy in seeking permission of police in this regard.”
