New law for domestic workers underway

State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haq Chunnu said the enactment of a new law favouring domestic workers across the country is now underway.
The draft of the act will be placed at the Jatiya Sangsad soon, said the state minister.
The state minister said this on Friday while addressing the inaugural session of the two-day triennial conference as the chief guest at the auditorium of the Institution of Engineer’s, Bangladesh (IEB).
Organised by Bangladesh Trade Union Centre, the conference was attended by at least 900 labour representatives.
Mujibul Haq said the government has taken initiatives to ensure the right of the workers. “The government has activated labour law and ensured trade union rights of the workers to strengthen the financial ability of the workers across the country,” he said.
The state minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken initiatives to ensure financial assistance for all workers, who had been victimized in the incidents of Rana Plaza collapse and Tazrin Garment.
Presided over by Shahidullah Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Trade Union Centre, the meeting was addressed by leaders from different labour organizations of Bangladesh and international labour leaders including, Phina Naimeko from South Africa, Ashok Gosh and Madan Bhasant from India and Rahid Chakrawarty from Nepal.
