Diplomatic Correspondent :
A new integrated state-of-the-art Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) will be inaugurated at the Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka today (Saturday).
The home ministers of Bangladesh and India jointly will inaugurate the new IVAC, in the Indian High Commission in Dhaka in a statement said.
The new visa processing set up will have 50 counters together giving an opportunity for around 700 applicants together making the move.
This new JFP facility will replace all existing visa application centers (Motijheel, Uttara, Gulshan and Mirpur Road) in Dhaka in two phases.
Simultaneously, the existing e-token (appointment) system for submission of Indian visa applications will also be withdrawn.
The new IVAC in JFP will replace the Motijheel and Uttara centers from July 15. The Gulshan and Mirpur Road centers will be shifted to JFP by August 31.
There will, thereafter, be only one Indian Visa Application Centre at JFP for all categories of visa applications without prior
appointment in Dhaka. The new IVAC in JFP will be a model visa centre, the Indian High Commission said.
The new IVAC in Jamuna Future Park, with an 18,500 square feet commercial area, will have facilities like computer-generated token vending machines which will indicate expected waiting time, comfortable sitting arrangement in an air-conditioned waiting area, coffee and soft drinks vending machines, food kiosks and 48 counters for submission of applications.
Separate counters will be reserved for senior citizens, women, freedom fighters and business applicants, the statement read.
A special help desk and counter for services like printing and photocopying will be accessible in exchange of real cost. The new system is expected to provide comfortable and seamless visa services to applicants and reduce waiting time considerably.
“The new move reflect the continuing efforts of the Indian High Commission to further streamline the Indian visa application process and strengthen people-to-people contacts between India and Bangladesh,” the statement read.
