An Indian visa application centre (IVAC) was opened at Uttara on Tuesday with a view to lessoning efforts to get Indian VISA.
The centre located at House No. 56, Road No. 18 of Uttara Sector No.-7 will receive visa applications from today (Wednesday).
State Bank of India (SBI), the authorized agent of the Indian
High Commission in Dhaka for accepting Indian visa applications on behalf of the Indian Visa Application Centres (IVACs), launched the new IVAC in the capital.
Acting Indian High Commissioner Dr Adarsh Swaika opened the IVAC in
presence of the officials of the State Bank of India and the High Commission.
With the opening of the IVAC at Uttara, the number of IVACs in Dhaka has gone up to four. The three others are in Gulshan, Dhanmondi and Motijheel.
Three new IVACs were inaugurated in September at Barisal, Rangpur and
Mymensingh. This was in addition to the previous four centres at Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna.
State Bank of India is presently operating 11 Indian Visa Application Centres in Bangladesh in all.
According to embassy sources, the visa applicants can deposit their application forms at the new centre between 8am and 1pm and will collect their passports from 3pm to 6pm.
However, Bangladeshis while getting Indian visas face serious problems for days together. Many of them complained that they could not submit applications, and even if any one succeeded to apply did not get a date for interview.
Some of them also alleged that they were refused without calling for interview. Hundreds of Bangladeshi traders, tourists, patients and their attendants, and students visit the next-door neighbour every year.
Meanwhile, India has recently announced port entry visa to almost all the foreigners interested to enter the country.
